Facebook and Old Folks are Here to Stay

As you see from my last post, old folks ain’t on the top of my Christmas list right now. This brought me to the fact that I can’t even avoid them if I tried. They’ve infiltrated my hangout spots now too! Like Facebook.

Remember when Facebook was just college students? Then they opened it to high schoolers and we threw all types of hissy fits. Markie Mark Zuckerberg ain’t gibbadamb though. Then he opened it to everyone and we almost blew gaskets eProtesting against it. No dice. We ain’t have NO say. What this means is that now, EVERYONE is on Facebook. From the neighborhood thug who JUST decided that keyboards weren’t to be shot up, to your great granny who just got her first email address “beulah.mae@gmail.com.”

How many folks freaked out when their parents joined Facebook? *raises hands high* My mom just randomly told me one day. “I’m on Facebook!” Me: *exits room* *comes back* “How? Why? Who showed you???” Apparently, my aunt told her to join. She tried to add me as a friend but I left her in Friendship Purgatory for a month until I was ready. With a deep *sigh*, I clicked “accept.” Next thing I know, I’m seeing my mom’s comments under folks’ pictures and on walls. Me: The world don spoil! Then she told me to help her add pictures. That was 3 months ago. I still haven’t done it. What??? I keep forgetting! O__o.

See??? This is a FAIL! Picture from Lamebook

One of my friends’ mama is always taking those “What kinda freak are you?” quizzes and I gag everytime it comes across my newsfeed. Miss Ma’am. I’ont wanna know you like that. I’ont wanna know what position my friend was conceived in. I just DO NOT!!!

Facebook be having you find out ALL types of stuff about your parents. When social networking goes WRONG! Finding out ALL types of information on your parents. iCan’t. It’s perpetual TMI and oversharing, especially when the info is about an adult in your life.

Shoutout to the former classmate of mine who THOUGHT her mom was 60, but learned via FB that she’s 40… iDied when Sister Toldja told me about this. When social networking goes WRONG! Finding out ALL types of information on your parents. iCan’t.

Even worse than parents joining Facebook is GRANDPARENTS being a part of it. When I say older folks, I’m referring to the geriatrics. The folks who may as well have stock in ben gay. But even then…

  • The day I see a group or page on FB called “These young whippa snappers don’t know nothing bout that there,” I’mo log off.
  • The day FB gets an app called “Diagnose the gout & glaucoma” I’mo put my account up for sale to the lowest bidder on craigslist.
  • When all the old ppl change their FB statuses to their illnesses “artharatees” “the sugars” “all-a-tahmers,” I’mo deactivate my account.
  • If FB gets a group called “We not old. We just creak a little,” I’mo press ctrl, alt, del & forcefully shut down my acct.

Moral of this story blog: I miss old, elitist, exclusive Facebook. I want it back. But I know it won’t be back.

Are your parents on Facebook? Did you friend them? Sharing is caring, AweLuvvers.

My mom is on facebook too – actually both my parents are – but she doesn't know how to use it so she has one of my little cousins creeping my ish for her. She almost lost her mind when she saw a picture of me with an NBA player touching my bare back. Aaaand just like that she was on limited profile where she shall remain forever.
I only just wish I could put her on limited profile in real life so she could be out of my business once and for all.

I had to just go ahead and make two pages. Moms and granny are on FB now, not to mention great aunts, cousins and all matters of whatnot. SMDH. I have one page that has ratchet-azz foolishness from undergrad my college friends and whatnot, and the other is more friends, family and co-worker friendly. That first page is BURIED in the FB innanets. Taint eem an "add" button on the page.
Tis the ONLYEST way to deal with the old folks INVASION. I don't tole my mama, if she gets Twitter, iQUIT EVERYTHANG!

Sadly but thankfully my mommy couldn't navigate her way through Facebook even if the site did all the work. And my daddy refuses to be a part of Facebook *does the running man* HOWEVER,my damn niece, nephew, aunts, uncles, and older cousins are all over Facebook. It's like a bad family reunion everyday(I tried to hide but they found me)it's all too much for me to handle.I could have stayed on MySpace if I was going to deal with this at least there my page had music.*sigh*

Momma and Gma…Mom's cool, but my 65yr old PASTOR of a grandma (who prays for me when she sees pictures of me getting ready to out) is definitely on limited profile. I keep thinkin I shouldn't have done it though, since I friended those two random family members have started adding me…and then have the nerve to ask me "Why cannI see any of yer pics? Ya got me on that limited thing there doncha?"
    Why yes, yes I do.

My grandmother is on FB. I wasn't going to add her until my mother (who isn't on) guilted me into adding her. Parental guilt is a muther—-

one random day i'm sitting in lab and my phone goes off. i get an email that i have a friend request from my mother. i thought this strange since my mom knows next to nothing about computers. and by next to nothing i mean she wouldn't even know how to turn one on. in the next five minutes i got a gchat invitation. o_0 i immediately called my brother and he told me that he was helping her set up all that stuff. yes i added her on both because i know she will NEVER check it.

Both of my parents are relatively tech savvy so I knew it was only a matter of time before they showed up on FB. Now I'm friends with my mom, dad, boss AND pastor! I act silly on Twittuh and leave FB calm. 🙁

My sister is on FB which is just as bad as having my mom on there! Luckily she doesn't comment often. I suspect she's using it for romantic purposes 🙁

And my two brothers, my uncle, my auntie Janet, my cousins, my sister's step-family, ALL my in-laws…too many people all up in my biz. This is why I don't curse online. AND my mom in law is on Twitter and only follows me and like 6 other people. So I have zero online privacy!
