So today is Stevie Wonder‘s 60th birthday. We must revel and rejoice in this day. I don’t care how far gone Stevie’s hairline maybe, or the fact that it’s wading in all types of water. I’m always going to be a fan. I’ont care how many tacky blazers his team make him put on, and how ridiculous they let his outfits get (I still say he fires his whole team but that’s neither here nor there). I love me some Stevie. He’s one of the ties to old music that we still have alive, and for that, he must be cherished.
I can’t sing “Happy Birthday” (with soul) without thinking of the Wonderous one. I may even do the same head bob he does. It’s now subconscious, I promise.
Stevie’s songs are like LIFE. No, really. How many of his songs can you tie back to some day or memory? Lawd knows everytime I think of “Ebony & Ivory” I now think of the uStream session I had with my friend, Stu McDonald. “Never Dreamed You’d Leave in Summer” makes me bust out a *WALL SLIDE* now ever since he sang it at MJ’s memorial service. I pretty much fell out my chair during his performance. My thug flatlined! “Overjoyed” is my life’s theme song. “Isn’t she lovely” reminds me of my niece. And so much more.
The moral of this story is “WE LOVE YOU, Stevie!!! Happy birthday to you and MANY MORE!” I shall now proceed to do a two-step to one of his records. Oh, and of course, cue THIS.
