My Life

True Life: I Bought UGG Boots. And I Love Them.

So I’m one of those people who has roasted Ugg boots to pieces over the years. They tend to look like brown foot casts and look utterly shapeless. I think what REALLY ruined them for me was how folks started wearing them in summer, with short shorts on. looks at Britney Spears Yeah YOU BRIT! Uggs became the shoes for lazy college students and lazy 20-somethings. I took personal affront to those who rocked 3 seasons in one outfit. Sweatshirt, shorts, and UGGs.

And lets face it, UGG boots ARE kinda short for ugly. They aren’t the shoes you put on when you wanna slay hoes with your kicks. Anyway, this has been my stance for years. I was a proud UGGs hater.

Until this weekend… I was in my fave store, AKIRA Chicago, when I saw a pair of UGGs that didn’t make me frown automatically. So I picked them up and thought… these aren’t AS bad. Then a salesperson approached me and asked if I wanna try them on. I have a hard time saying no in stores, so I said “Hmm… sure why not?” She brought them out and I put them on. At first I was all “This feels nice.” But then in like 10 seconds, my feet were like “we like it in here. Is there fur UNDER us??? HEAVEN IN SHOES!”

UGG boots

And they fit around my skinty calves. GLORAY!

So I twitpiced the boots while I was trying them on to get folks opinions. And did my Twitfam come with them!

Ugh, I just can’t get down w/ uggs, they look warm, but the also look like you just stuck your foot in a block of mud & kept going. – @mschicamae

I’m torn. I normally hate Uggs, but summa these styles are aaalmost. Plus, these early a.m. Dogwalks got my tootsies freezin! – @soulamami

Ooh Uggs. You can be aesthetically snobby and dismiss them, but once you try them on, it all goes away. #hugforyourfeet – @Squisite1

Go for it. Your feet will never be cold again. No matter how cold it is. – @Doll1023

Those uggs are way better than the reg ones. I love the detail on the side, esp the pockets – @eldixon

I hated the way Uggs looked but when I tried them on I fell in love. I’ve had them on everyday for three weeks. Warm + comfy!! – myexpresslane

I’ve had those exact uggs for 5 years and they are beyond warm and comfy as all get out – @kstreet

Uggs are a must 🙂 – @stylishgurl

Iown’t care what people say about Uggs; as long as they’re warm as hell, I’mma keep wearing them – @mypolaropposite

I have the Olive colored Ugg from 2005…still love them!!! Very warm & comfortable, especially in snow and the zip = easy off – @tiabia

Uhhhhhh I have two pairs of UGG boots and I LIVE in them in winter so FTW!! – @LianneFarbes

Uggs are on my list of winter accessories I still need. They are actually first on the list. I love Uggs! – @RenishaRenewed

Dayum Style! My Uggs are warm! – @jordanmktg

Where were all the UGG boot haters? Apart from @mschicamae, no one else really threw shade on UGGs and I was surprised! All these UGG loves just came outta the woodworkds. Anywho…

As I walked around the store in them, the boots hugged my feet more and I slowly fell in love.

I left the store without them and said “I’ll think about it.” Then I walked around the mall while my feet were all “But we really liked those boots. They felt like plushness and love.” With visions of how my feet felt dancing in my head, I returned to the store an hour later, looking pitiful.

I tried them on again and they made sweet sweet love to my feet (and cuddled afterwards). They felt so warm and cozy. Like a night spent on the couch snuggled up in a blanket with hot chocolate and “The Christmas Story.” Yes. I was soooo gay for these UGGs.

I took a deep sigh and said “I’ll risk being judged. I’ll get them.” Me. Hater of all things UGG and unfabulous. Roaster of the boots that are notoriously unattractive but infamously warm. Yes. I was buying UGG boots. And I walked out the store with them in a box.

Now I want THESE! They're red. Of course I do!

I’m now the owner of a pair of super warm UGGs. Are they less ugly than some I’ve seen in the past? Probably not. I’m pretty sure I’ll still look like I stuck my feet in a brown cast. But I’ll be dambed if I give a damb about that as I walk around Chicago winter while my toasty feet smile at the world.

And to make matters worse. You all know I have an addictive personality. When I like something, I get hooked to it. I’ve already found another pair of UGGs I want. Nay, NEED. They’re red. Of COURSE I need them. Y’all wanna get it for me for Christmas? You KNOW you wanna! *puppy dog eyes*

I think I’m growing up. Comfort and warmth first. Then cuteness. I’ll still be cute #doe. These UGGs ain’t gon stop my game! With that being said, I shall take an oath, to make y’all rest easy.

I, OluLuvvie AdeRatchet, vow to never wear my new Uggs them with shorts. Or between the months of May through October. I will not rock my UGGs with a dress indoors (as in at functions). Unless I decide to become Amish. I will treat my UGGs with respect and spray the suede with a protector before rocking them in snow. This is my oath.

Signed,

New UGGs owner

So… are y’all judging me? Have I lost cool points? Are there any secret UGG lovers who read this blog? Come out the shadows. I’m officially one of you.

P.S. NAWL UGG Australia ain’t pay me for this. I haven’t been drugged. And yes, I can prove it. I HATE LIL DUVAL! See??? It’s really me!

Those cargo Uggs are the ish. I tell everyone who can’t overcome the ugliness of classic Uggs to start with those. But I have a pair of each and I think the truly horrific-looking ones are just slightly warmer than the marginally-cute cargo joints.

    • December 7, 2010 at 5:00 am

WORD??? They come even warmer than the cargo joints??? NOICE!

  2. December 6, 2010 at 8:38 am

I, Alovelydai, felt the exact same way. Then my mom bought my daughter a pair for Xmas last year…and we wear the same size shoe…and it was midnight on Black Friday…and it was bound to be cold in those long lines…and my daughter stayed home…and her shoes were at the front door…so…now I’m in love.

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:59 am

LOL did you steal your daughter’s after that or go buy your own pair?

O_o Luvvie you really bought some Ugglys? Hmm. I refuse to try them on because I’ve heard about the crack-ish way you get addicted once your foot hits the fur. You now have me wondering if it’s possible to wear a pair of Ugglys in the car to keep my tooties warm & then quickly change into a shoe with a shape…glad your tooties are all warm & cuddly though, rock ’em girl!

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:59 am

Yeah I sure did buy them. I, too, am shocked. It ain’t just you. But yes, don’t try them on unless you wanna fall in love. They’ll get you. And YES you can buy them for your car and change out. Good idea!

  4. December 6, 2010 at 9:15 am

In the past, Uggs have earned the best side-eye I was humanly possible of giving. But I must admit that the ones you bought are almost…dare I say it…cute? It looks like they’re putting more care into the design elements and offering multiple colors–that helps a lot. Previously they looked like some half-finished fashion school project that somebody decided to sell.

I MIGHT just have to try Uggs out. Cuz those red ones you like? I’m thinking that I need the cobalt blue version in my life. Hmmm.

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:58 am

Yeah I’m SO glad they’re adding colors to the arsenal. They might be making that effort to make them less UGGly. When I saw the ones I got on the shelf, I went “hmmm… not too shabby.” They ain’t FIERCE or nohing but I’ll be dambed if I won’t be strutting in them just b/c they’re so warm.

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:58 am

Oh and those boots in cobalt? I think they DEF are cute (in the UGG way, of course)

  5. December 6, 2010 at 9:25 am

Good god almighty, I hate them things…lol They are stupendously UGGly. Mind you, my little sister is trying to get me in a pair. The ones that you purchased are not hideous per say…lol, they do look cute on ya. I have seen quite a few of the UGGZ boots transform and dare I say, look kinda nice. Have I crossed over to the other side as yet? HELL NO. I will let you know if that day ever arrives.

    Enjoy your boots, dahlin!

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:56 am

I need you to try on a pair and gimme updates. I hope your sis gets them for you. You’ll find yourself falling in love against all your will.

  6. December 6, 2010 at 9:37 am

*stands slowly, smooths out my clothes*

I too was an Ugg hater. But there I was trying to hit up Inauguration. But not having lived in the mid-west in nearly two decades, I was without proper cold weather gear. It hurt me but I found myself at the Nordstrom trying on Uggs. They were amazing. My feet cursed me out for having not jumped on the Ugg train sooner. The day after Inauguration, I went on line and order the same exact pair in another color. My love is real and deep. Viva la Uggs!

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:56 am

Gurl everyone at the Inaug shoulda had on UGGs b/c I heard it was colder than a witch’s heart out there. I was in DC but was sent a warning text and decided to watch it on TV. HA!

      • Stacy
        December 14, 2010 at 3:01 pm

I did not get the memo. Inauguration made me go buy a pair. After I caught slight frost bite on my middle toe o_0. My row dogs feet were nice and comfy all up in her Uggs. I converted immediately, faster than a black prison inmate to Islam. YOU HEAR ME! Uggs to me is like a ugly boyfriend, you sleep on him til he rocks your world one time REALLL good then your d-whipped and crackish…and the rest of the world cant understand why…

  7. December 6, 2010 at 9:47 am

I’ve been rocking the cardys since this time last winter. It stands up nicely to allathat plowed snow on the sidewalks, and the $90 on ebay investment- WAY worf it. Of course I had to put on the super monocle to discern the ‘authenticness’ of them, but it worked out.

PS- real gangsters buy extra sheepskin lined insoles. That’s how you fix a pair that’s running low!

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:55 am

OOOOO!!! Sheepskin-lined insoles??? Where I get them from? School me, Beez!

  8. December 6, 2010 at 10:26 am

OMG stop shopping hoe! I see Mint.com no longer has you hemmed up. *peers over fake glasses*

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:53 am

Gurl… I think I mark Mint.com as spam now. It judges me too murch.

What a great way you start my morning, girl you are a hoot. Yes, I know I’m in the doghouse but I’ll make it up, iSwear. Glad you put you put first things 1st, comfort; which in perspective is health. Enjoy being all growed up, UGGS are the best! Who cares how bad you look there’s a group of folks walking around in those casts… -___- YESS! Just keep to that oath, we holding you to it

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:53 am

LOL!!! I sure did put comfort first. I might get those in Black too. Shoo… #colorMeHooked. You might just see me in them soon. lol

  10. December 6, 2010 at 11:20 am

I just bought a pair on Friday. It’s like slipping your feet into Heaven! I love the way it feels and keeps my feet warm. I will be purchasing another pair in the future for sure.

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:52 am

SEE? We’re all falling victim to the voodoo UGGs do!

  11. December 6, 2010 at 11:25 am

    Hola Chica,

I was once an Ugg hater myself but after you try them on it’s over. I mean seriously over, because your feet have never tasted heaven until they taste the inside of an Ugg. Now I won’t be one of those little rachet chicken heads wearing those things in the summer but what all winter long my feet will be in bliss. And I mean bliss girl, absolute shoe bliss with no apologies. I don’t care how UGGly they look or how I looked like I stepped in brown cement and kept it moving I will continue to proudly sport UGG boots…until of course it’s not fashionable to do it anymore but even then I might keep a pair in my car during the cold season.

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:51 am

“because your feet have never tasted heaven until they taste the inside of an Ugg”

      YES LAWDT!

    December 6, 2010 at 2:05 pm

I love UGGs and never had a problem with them. Probably because I tried them on when they first came out. What I want to know is does this mean that you will start wearing crocs too? That is another horrific looking pair of shoes that will make your feet feel like they died and went to heaven.

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:51 am

HELKY NAW! I shan’t be seen in Crocs. NAWL! But I heard they’re sooo comfortable. I will stay away from ever trying them on. Since I’m now so impressionable lol

      • December 8, 2010 at 8:55 pm

NEVER try on Crocs…EVER. I worked at a doctor’s office and EVERYONE was sporting them. I was like, naw, I ain’t going out like that. ‘Til all that running back and forth made my dawgs BARK. My coworker said girl I got an extra pair, try these on… *Heavenly wind chime sounds* HOW COULD THEY BE THAT COMFY?! HOW?! Hooked me hard. Same as UGGS. I choose heaven over cuteness. I’m at that age lol

      • Stacy
        December 14, 2010 at 3:06 pm

Ms. Luvvie, I must address you in this manner as Im a lurker come to light…Crocs is the TRUF!!! AMEN, Halleujah. Crocs are the Uggs of the summer time. They feel like nothing, you almost have to look twice to make sure you are wearing shoes. Holla at me when you buy some cause its coming. First I bought the Uggs, then came the Crocs, next thing you know I’m hugging trees.

  13. December 6, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Enjoy! Make sure you budget for getting them dry cleaned. My daughter’s get all sweaty from time to time O_O.

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:50 am

Dry cleaning UGGS? LAWDT! I need a manual on care or something.

  14. December 6, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Oh I love Uggs just not the price tag, so I buy any fur boot that is reasonable. Just ordered a pair of Rocket dogg fur boots and have my eye on some Bear Paw ones. I do like the button Uggs they are very cute.

In the Uk to me it seems standard to wear them with leggings, skinny jeans and velour tracksuits. I have seen them looking chic and not so nice.

Uggs or any fur boot is a keeper your toes will always thank you for them

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:49 am

YESSSS!!! Fur boots FTW. Although some make one’s feet look like what I imagine the abominable snowman’s would.

  15. December 6, 2010 at 9:15 pm

I’ve never been an UGG hater, I just have this rule: SNOW boots are for the SNOW. I’m sick of people wearing them in the summer. But this winter, I’d like to shout out the people who wear flip flops all year long. Stop it.

    • December 7, 2010 at 4:48 am

Yeah I def don’t cosign UGGs being worn in the summer. That’s some nonsense.

    • Stacy

  18. December 7, 2010 at 7:42 pm

I didn’t like these boots either. They don’t actually seem like they would be that warm. I have to say the pink/reddish one looks cute, though.

    • December 13, 2010 at 2:31 am

I promise they’re SUPER warm but those red ones DO got my name on them!

  19. December 8, 2010 at 2:56 am

I hate Uggs they are soooo Uuuuugggly!!

Now I have seen many colors and many styles and they have been cute on some people. Now Luvvie, what you wear like a size 6? Imagine them in a size 12 ….hmmm yeap not so much.

I chose to buy Koolaubrras http://www.koolaburra.com/ They are uber comfy but if you have flat feet; I recommend inserting preferred foot support underneath the sheep fur for added comfort.

Just in case people forgot what Uggs look like when you don’t take care of them. o___O Please refer yourself here and please do not have anything liquid around when you see this! http://www.vexinthecity.com/2010/03/why-i-think-uggs-should-be-banned.html

    Yeah I know! smh

my friend sent me this blog… and I swear you were in my head when I was shopping for boots a few weeks ago. ‘me, a dude that hates uggs. goin and buy one?!?!’

I did try to resist for a bit longer so I lasted 3 or 4 days before going back to get it… here is a link to the pic.. http://www.cloggs.co.uk/invt/80711901/

you will notice they would be unidentifiable if it were not for the tiny ugg logo on the sole of the boot.. haha.. maybe someone should start a page for all ugg converts to post their story

    • December 13, 2010 at 2:33 am

YAYYY!! Welcome to my site! Thanks for commenting and on’t be no strangers.

There are other warm boots. My thigh boots are fur lined; super warm and cute.
Lazy shoppers settlin’ for the first thang they see.
    Geesh.

    • December 13, 2010 at 2:34 am

If you’d buy me warm cute boots for Christmas, I wouldn’t have to resort to this! lol

  22. December 8, 2010 at 8:43 pm

I have been an UGG convert for the last five years, even though I live in Cali. Instead of a traditional UGG, I went for some that lace all the way up and rocked the hell out of them, until Oprah went all My Favorite things on me and then I put them in hibernation! I rock them babies AWUT. My thick thighs rock these with skinny jeans chunky knits and lots of layers!
