I Love Awkward Black Girl
I can dance. I like my job (well, I work for myself so I BETTER!). And I don’t have an unrequited crush (unless you want to count my love for Idris Elba. I LOVE HE SO!). However, I still think I’m an awkward black girl (with skinny girl problems). I wasn’t always comfortable in my skin. I don’t think I REALLY dug who I was until college, so the awkward black girl struggle was real within me And this is why I LOVE Issa Rae, the Awkward Black Girl. I got introduced to her series a couple of weeks ago and I watched every episode she’d made in one sitting.
Issa Rae plays Awkward Black Girl, who goes by the name “J.” She works at some company with one racially ambiguous co-worker who says offensive shit all the time but gets away with it because he’s mixed with everything. She has a crush on this dude named Fred, who seems to send her mixed messages. And her office archnemesis is always on Fred’s steeze, trying to make her jealous. And her BFF is a cute little chick who works with her and is just as awkward, but less aware of her awkwardness. Cliff notes: this series rocks.
The first time I watched it, I straight up GUFFAWED! It was sooo funny. Watch this episode of J going to Fred’s birthday party. Chile…
I think what Issa Rae and crew are doing here is genius. And hilarious. And poignant. And relatable. They rock my socks, for realsies.
Oh and Awkward Black Girl is raising money to finance the show’s production. Issa Rae and her team are trying to raise $30,000 by August 11th. They’re almost halfway there so take a look at their Kickstarter fundraiser page. If you’re a fan, throw them a couple of coins if you can afford it. Nothing is too small. You can even donate $1.

OH…..EM…..GEEEEEEE!!! I sat thru all the shows in one sitting!! My fave? The Stapler!!! Hands down I watched it like three times, tweeted the link to some peeps and watched it (literall) while driving! The opening rap on that vid followed with the “where’s my stapler?….hey guys, where’s my stapler? *looks around* *hops up* WHERE. The F*CK IS MY STAPLER!!!!!” I cry errtime! The anger management class was hilarious! I do look forward to seeing J and white J hang out though. Fred gone have to get his life together on his own time! OH! And baby voice Darius?? *flatlined* Issa’s face when communicating with him would’ve been the EXACT expressions I had! I soooooo look forward to more!
I’ve been on Issa Rae’s work since day one. You also gotta wach her stuff she did for “The Fly Guys”-The F Word. Talk about HEE-LARIOUS! OMG! But yeah..I def blogged about her as well. Totally relatable..I’m certainly awkward in every sense of the word
I found it yesterday through Afrobella and OMG. I sat there and watched every episode at once! I LOVE it, I was so sad when episode 6 ended and there was nothing else for me to look at. LOL they are great.

This series gives me LIFE!!! Clutch magazine put me on to ABG a few months ago and I STAY waiting for a new episode. Issa Rae is doing it!

And when she did the commentary on dancing with a lame-a** 2520-guy made her feel like she could really dance, I KNEW she was talkin’ ‘bout me!
(Yes, I’ve also been totally used as the A/A male “Jealousy Bait” and dumped. But, no harm, no foul. I hold no grudges on that. It all adds to that thing called Life)

I love EVERYTHING about ABG. I quote lines for no reason randomly. The other day, I went “I hope you burn in hell nigga, burn in burn in hell nigga” for absolutely NO reason.
I hope she can get this on TV because this series is great.
