Pop Up Video is Back! And With More Shade. YES!

Ok if you were born after 1990, you might not remember this too much but for us older than that folks, we recall VH1’s “Pop Up Video.” I used to LOVE that show, and I mentioned it when I talked about old shows I miss. I love behind-the-scenes stuffs. I’m the kind who will sit on the couch and watch “Making Ofs” for hours on DVDs. I think it’s because I’m nosy in general. Finding out insider info of stuff is interesting to me, so naturally, Pop Up Video is my kind of show. And when it ended in 2002, I did a *wall slide*! But it’s back now!

Pop Up Video

And last night, they did a 2-episode sneak peek on VH1, and I had a TV-gasm!

It kicked off with a Britney Spears video, “Till the World Ends,” and they didn’t miss a beat. The commentary was all types of random and awesome. BUT it was snarky as always, if not more. Lemme tell you… there was sooo much shade being thrown in those pop ups. Especially when they played Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor.” I won’t give y’all all the facts but apparently, that song was about Lauryn’s relationship with Wyclef Jean. I HAD NO CLUE! Throw in more than a coupla comments bout Lauryn’s mistressy ways with Rohan and her lack of work and Pop Up Video won me over ALL over again. That show is a gossipy summabish and I LOVE EVERY PARTS OF IT! YESSSS!

It did allow me to #payamish to old Lauryn Hill. The one who didn’t dress like her address was 123 Cardboard Box Under the Bridge Blvd.

They also showed “Coming Home” with Diddy, Dawn Richards and Not Estelle. That was a good one cause Diddy’s divadom was kind of put on blast. And Cee-Lo’s “F*** You” also made me cackle.

I’m SO excited for this series to be back, y’all. You don’t even understand. And these 2 episodes I watched got my hyped up. VH1 knows how to keep me watching. And honestly, if they need any more writers for their Pop Up Video series, they need to look no further. I could bring all of the shade! *slides resumé to someone*

Oh and I was perusing the Pop Up Video site and found this CLASSIC of Michael Jackson’s “Black and White.” YES LAWD!!! Enjoy:

YESSSS!! I LOVED Pop-Up Video (PUV)! You do not understand the excitement that I felt way down deep in my spirit when I heard that “bloop” on my TV! I wasn’t even looking at it and knew that was PUV! I, too, am something like a nosy heffa (who values her own privacy…isn’t that how it always goes, lol) so I LOVES me some PUV. I had a conversation at the salon (read: homegirls house because the booth rent was too damb high!) and this older 50 something woman said “I don’t like Pop-Up Video. All that popping up is distracting” Grandma Moses, I need you to first understand the point of PUV is not to enjoy the video, it is to glean little known facts about the artists and the #FirstWorldProblems encountered during the creation of this video (you had me cackling through the whole show, lol, shout out to Bono). Second, PUV just ain’t for you and your generation. And third, please have a seat and understand getting hype with me about your disdain with the return of the greatest show known to VH1 since Best Week Ever is not going to bring your youth back. So let me be great. I just might have to get me a DVR for this. Yep, I just might, lol.

OMG–I’m so excited! I’ve missed it so much–the witty remarks, the random factoids leading us off onto bizarre tangents and the impossible-to-predict tie-ins back to the songs were brilliant and hilarious! I didn’t think anyone else remembered and liked it as much as I did. Thanks to VH1 for bringing back an old favorite!

I’m watching right now. When they did the ads for this show coming back I lost my composure!

I loved this show. So far they’re talking ish about Terrence Howard, Ke$ha, and No Doubt. Where can you get all of that in one show?

Wouldn’t it be awesome to have some pop up video in real life? You at the office, talking to old so and so and this bubble pops up all ‘he spent 10,000 last week in Vegas.’

I am TOO excited about the re-emergence of Pop-Up Video. Like you Luvvs, I was sad to see the show go and I set it to tape on my DVR a few nights ago. I agree to that it was throwing a lot of shade, waaaaaay more than the old show. I was like, daaaaang! Why they gotta talk about Britney and Diddy like that? Hilarious though and I will be tuning in forevermore!
