White Hats Off and Scandal’s Back On: Episode 201 Recap

I have been anticipating the return of Scandal, starring Kerry Washington, since Season 1 ended in May. Those episodes were everything and after every one of them, I’d be jumping around in my living room wondering what was next. In fact, it takes me a good 30 minutes after every Scandal episode ends for me to calm down. I just be hyped, sweating like Fantasia onstage after she takes her shoes off.

So I was MORE than ready for Season 2! I was parched and dehydrated for it, even.

Scandal ABC Kerry Washington

If you haven’t watched the premiere episode, you might want to skip this post until you do because I’ll be talmbout plot points so it’ll be full of spoilers. I repeat. THIS POST IS ONE MASSIVE SPOILER. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

* President Ghost Ain’t Here for First Lady. – I forgot the First Lady was #pregnet! The first scene with her and President Ghost (yes, I call him that. Think about it and figure out why) basically set the tone for the whole episode. They START in the middle of a conversation, and we just had to figure out what was going on.

But one thing was apparent. Prez was NOT there for First Lady. She was tryna have him pick out colors for something baby-related, and he wasn’t e’em giving a damb. And then she gon tell him “This baby was conceived in service to our country.” Miss Ma’am… WUT??? O_O

* Who is Quinn Perkins? –  All summer, this was the question everyone was asking. Well they jump right in. Quinn is now on trial for murder and her real name is Lindsey Dwyer. Olivia Pope’s firm is representing her and half of them don’t believe her innocence but all of them are still doing the work because of their trust of Miss Pope. Shonda an’ ’em went RIGHT TO THE PAINT!

And when Quinn tried to fire Olivia, she couldn’t. Because Olivia Pope is a GRAND GOON like that!

* Color Me Lost. – The episode starts to confuse me for a little bit at this point. The dialogue got so fast that I had to squint to listen (yes this makes sense). It was like the writers pressed “fast forward” and I started getting lost and not catching details. Shonda Rhimes is known for snappy dialogue but even this was fast for her writing style. I was sitting on my couch looking like Mitt Romney in a calculus class for a good 15 minutes.

But at the end of the first half, I had figured out the general stuff. The First Lady and President Ghost were at odds. Cyrus and Olivia had made up. Quinn/Lindsey was being accused of blowing up a whole building and Olivia was hellbent on making sure she’d be free. The firm’s newest client was a Congressman who was getting busy on his desk and got caught on camera.

This still made me feel lost though because in Scandal, characters drop lines that really come in handy later on when tryna figure out the mystery.

But the 2nd half of the show made things better.

* President Ghost Goes AWF! – The First Lady was trying to be manipulative and force the Prez’s hand during an interview they had revealing the gender of the First Baby. When they got back to the Oval Office, he snatched her wig with his words! He told her “YOU DID NOT GET ELECTED! YOU ARE ORNAMENTAL, NOT FUNCTIONAL!” Welpy McWelpington Jr.! He basically let her know she better be the best piece of decoration she could be and STFU.

Chile, you better believe I’ma start calling people “ornamental” all willy nilly now. Calling folks tinsel left and right and up and down. Yes indeed!

I hate you gifi hate you too gif* I Hate You Too. – We know the reason President Ghost is cranky is because he misses Olivia. He places a call to her, speaking political sweet nothings in her smart ear. And they hang up with “I hate you so much.” “I hate you too.” Ma’am and sir!!! They’re both as a sprung as a sealy posturepedic. It’d be absolutely adorable, if you don’t think about the fact that one of them is married to someone else. OWWWW!!! SCANDALLLLL!

* Secks Tape is Leaked. – Olivia, being the genius that she is, leaks the secks tape of the Congressman, so she can control the conversation. I thought the tape was gon end up on MediaTakeOut. Shoo… But yes. Pope don’t play!

SIDENOTE: I must pay #amish to an important character in Scandal: Olivia Pope’s wardrobe. Yes. That is DEFINITELY a character. Kerry Washington’s #alphets on the show be EVERY GAHTDAMB THING. Scandal’s wardrobe department be having Kerry looking FIERCE !!! Most of the time, she’s in Lisa Raye white, looking fresher than spring rain in the morning after your housekeeper came by.

But when they have Olivia in dark colors, I try to pay close attention. It’s usually when something ridiculous is about to happen or when they do flashbacks. Methinks Olivia in black is when she used to be involved in more sinister stuff and maybe she rocks white and tan now mostly because she’s brand new. IDK but I know one thing. I LIVE for her clothes. LIVE!!!

* Olivia Pope Doesn’t Lose. – The case of Quinn/Lindsey was looking really bad, and it seemed that she was about to lose and go to trial. WELLS, while in black, Olivia placed a call to somebody. The next day, the judge dismissed the case and everyone went WOWWWWWWWWW. Who did she place the call to? What diabolical thing did she have to do to make it happen? Why did she look like she was about to cry in the courtroom? I HAZ QUESTIONS!

And then they started showing Huck being sneaky and it started dawning on me. Olivia knew who Quinn was all along and she probably had something to do with it. I got proof.

Scandal tweet

AND I WAS RIGHT!!! Turns out that Olivia is the person who got Lindsey Dwyer all the documents to become Quinn Perkins. And no one but her, Huck and whoever BIG WIG they’re working with knew.

And the episode ends.

CHILE, WHAT IS GOING ON??? Whatever it is, I AM HERE FOR IT!

This was me at the end of this latest episode.

Serious Clapping gif

Seriously. Shonda Rhimes and the writing team of Scandal are some devious geniuses and I’m here for them ALLA TAHM! I bow to their pens!

This season of Scandal is off to an awesome start. I would like for them to slow the dialogue down a little bit though, so I don’t have to look like a lost puppy when I watch some of it. Either way, I’ma have to suffer through that because the story is just awesomesauce. CAN’T WAIT for episode 2.

Did y’all watch it? Whatcha think?

Right on the money Luvvie. I kept asking the entire episode why was Olivia protecting Quinn/Lindsay? My theory is Quinn is related to someone who is VERY important (thats who Olivia called probably to get the case dismissed). But I don’t think Quinn has any idea as to who she is related to. Anywho, the show was great and the live tweeting yesterday makes every show better.

I was thinking the whole time- “I wonder if Olivia had something to do with Quinn’s incident?” Then when Huck closed that door, he tricked me. I was saying “Oh it’s Huck and he is trying to keep it from Olivia.” Then when he got in the passenger seat of that car, I said “AWWWWWWWWW it’s both of them!!!!DAAAAAMMMMMMM”””””” Scandal is scandalous!

I was all in my tv looking like it held the secrets to life.
Last night was so good I almost threw money at the screen. When Fitz (LMAO @President Ghost!) went off on Libby I slid out of my chair with my jaw dropped!

What do I think? I think you are a stone fool (and I mean that in the most complimentary way)! Seriously, I was laughing so hard at this post that I needed to get up and shut my door.

I don’t have to watch the show if you’re going to do a recap every week. Thank you!

Olivia gonna have to pay for that phone call she made/favor she asked for! That will be a whole episode in itself. And when I seen Huck had something to do with the whole Quinn thing, I knew Olivia was the mastermind ’cause her and Huck are thick as thieves! And I’m so glad the Pres checked his wife and the Chief of Staff. ‘Bout time he manned up!! I don’t watch the previews just so I can be super surprised next episode.

The one question that I took away from the episode was, who is Olivia covering up for? Quinn/Lindsey was the sacrificial lamb for someone else and hopefully we find out who that is. Maybe it was the person Olivia called…I don’t know.

AHhhh..I was sitting here watching this thing unfold and found myself saying, well ill be a monkeys aunty..lol..This has just floored me esp at the end when it revealed her part in the whole Quinn situation..I cant wait for next week!! I also cant wait for the return of Revenge on Sunday…do you watch that? I didnt at first but its on Netflix and I gave it a try and I must say its just as good as this series.

Please keep doing these recaps chile! This post was hilarious but gave me the info I needed! I only saw the last half of the episode but Olivia and Huck def had something to do with Quinn/Lindsey from the beginning. If you think back to the first season, Quinn was just kind of thrown in the to the mix. I think that was Olivia’s way of keeping an eye on her and guarding who she was. Olivia was too busy secretly loving the president that I think she got sidetracked in regards to Quinn. Then Quinn starting doing her own thing and got herself caught up with the reporter. I can’t wait for next week!

After I watched all 7 episodes of season 1 in one sitting, I was pumped to find out who Quinn was. My theory, and still is, she’s related to a highly publicized political figure. Given the huge plot line surrounding the president, I thought she might have been an illegitimate child of his some woman never told him about.

But I do know this. Harrison needs to just go ahead and buy Quinn dinner, so I can breathe a little easier in my life. “When I buy you dinner, you’ll know it’s a date.”

And when Quinn was describing how she was mysteriously transported by someone nobody saw coming or going, I knew Huck was involved. Don’t nobody but CIA get down with that ninja shit.

I believe it’s my curse as a writer that I’m able to predict most of the story lines miles before they happen, but I still thoroughly enjoy the show.

    I hate the redhead, doe.

The Lindsay incident was 2 years ago in the middle of Fitz’s presidential campaign. Luvvie, what you got on Quinn being Fitz’s illegitimate daughter that he knows nothing about and someone framed her for those murders to wreck his chances at the presidency? That’s my theory. Olivia and Huck went into superhero mode because they were too late to stop the bomb.

    • Jennifer
      September 28, 2012 at 6:55 pm

I think Lindsay/Quinn is tool old to be President Ghost’s daughter but she could be a half sister. *rubs chin*

Quinns is from California and woke up one morning in Washington D.C
2 years ago Olivia was working on the campaign ,and at he White house.
Quinns is someone special for Olivia.
Olivia called the father of Quinns
Maybe she is Fitz half sister or The first lady sister’s.
Melie And Fitz are from California ?
Definitely Quinns is related to the White House.

      • September 30, 2012 at 3:58 pm

LOL why you keep calling her “Quinns?”

I don’t think Quinn is related to the First Lady at all. That connection doesn’t e’em seem like it’d work. I don’t think her connection is to anyone in the White House, actually.

Scandal was everything last night. So much so, I had to watch it twice from two different time zones. Thanks goodness for cable!

I still have a lot of questions that will hopefully be answered this season:
-Who put the camera in the Congressman’s office?
-Who is the real culprit (bomber) that framed Quinn/Lindsey? (I bet Olivia will find out)
-Is the VP’s Chief of Staff dead? And if so, who is his scandalous replacement?
-What is Abby’s problem? Why is she so angry? Why does she work there if she doesn’t want to help folks?
-Is America’s Baby really the President’s? Just wondering…

I would LOVE Olivia Pope’s skills ‘ cause I need people I can just pick up the phone, call, and get results. Besides my mama and daddy, of course.

YAAAAS To all of this. When Pres Ghost (lol) said “You’re ornamental, not functional!!” I nearly Leyomi dropped in my living room! I got bad knees, Shonda. I cannot be out here leyomi dropping every damn Thursday!

Anyway, I’m thinking that Quinn/Lindsey’s ex-boyfriend was into some sinister ish or CIA or something and in order to deflect the investigatiob they set Quinn/Lindsey up. However, they wanted to keep her free (maybe cause she knows something, but is unaware that she knows it- you know how ignorant Quinn can be) so they got Olivia involved.

    • Bukky
      October 2, 2012 at 12:03 pm

This is what I’m thinking!! Quinn’s boyfriend was in IT, some kind of programmer. I’m thinking someone blew up the building for reasons that prolly have NOTHING to do with Quinn. Quinn was just collateral damage that became the fall guy unknowingly. I think Olivia and Huck have knowledge of why the office was blown up, and felt bad that Quinn was taking the blame so they took her in.

I really really can’t stand when the redhead opens her mouth, she is a hater of grand proportions. And even though President Ghost ‘s snatching of his wife’s wig was hella rude….I was there for all of it! It was a long time coming.

I had to rewind like 5 times cause everybody was speaking so darn fast! But yes this epi gave me instant life.

  19. TheBrownBabe
    September 28, 2012 at 3:43 pm

I started thinking Olivia had something to do with Quinn’s story halfway through the show, otherwise it didn’t make NO SENSE how hard she was going for her. When I saw that Huck was involved, I now think that Huck had something to do with the bombing, Quinn was falsely implicated, and because Huck is a psycho killer with a heart he enlisted Olivia to fix it for Quinn. At least that’s my theory…

GURL! You ain’t never lied! I’m so glad I’m not the only one jonesing for Scandal!
Your recap is both on point and a MESS!
I didn’t start thinking OP was in on the Quinn mess until they basically set it out there for us. Wow!
I don’t think Quinn is well-connected. I think OP was cleaning up somebody else’s mess and rescued Quinn when she saw an innocent was getting ready to take the fall.
I can’t stand Mel or Cyrus! I don’t care that OP and Cyrus made up. I still don’t trust him. Don’t forget we still don’t know how OP’s and Ghost’s tape really got out!
Can’t wait for the next episode! *shondagivesmelife*

Love it! Thank heavens for DVR…I am ALWAYS rewinding. I couldn’t make out all that Cyrus said to Olivia about meeting Pres Ghost on the lawn…. or I am dying to know what he said to her in episode 6 last season while they were gettin’ busy, and taped.

I am hooked! And hate i live in L.A. Stayed up way too late to watch it sans commercials. But best believe I am going to have to check in here the next morning…loved your recap!!

    • September 30, 2012 at 4:10 pm

You West Coasters get the short end of the stick there b/c I know you gotta avoid Twitter tough during the hour where we watch it. But yesssss. I am beyond hooked!

    September 29, 2012 at 11:56 am

This episode was everything I was waiting for. I watched via DVR Friday nite and was soooo into it that I didn’t realize it had been an hour already and FF’d thinking it was a commercial break. My heart was sad that was it.

Yes OP is dressed in my Pinterest wardrobe. I read the wardrobe designers saying that she’s dressed in darker colors in flashbacks to show she was a different (no necessarily worse) person then.

Because I like to be surprised I’m going to wait for the show to figure the connection between Lindsey/Quinn and OP and Huck, but let me tell you when OP looked at the replacement ref attorney and told him “you don’t know how to leave” I was to through!

My only dilemma now is do I watch every Thursday and have to wait in suspense for another week or do I attempt to just record all season then watch at the end???

    • September 30, 2012 at 4:05 pm

LMAO at replacement ref attorney. She punked the crap outta him with that.

    • September 30, 2012 at 4:06 pm

GIRL NAWL!!! You can’t wait for the entire season before watching eps! You setting yourself for failure. AND you gon run across spoilers along the way and be mad. You best just watch it every week.

  24. September 29, 2012 at 12:17 pm

OMG! I was on the edge of my seat the entire hour.

I fell out when the Prez told her she was ornamental not functional. Im so gonna make this part of my lingo cause I know a few ornaments o_O

The phone call! I was like “who da hayle did she call”?!? And the look on the prosecuters face was PRICELESS! She told him he was gonna lose lol

    Cmon next week!

Maybe Quin is related to the obsessive, manipulate first lady. This woman is very good player and at the end of the season, something will blow up in her face.

    • September 30, 2012 at 4:00 pm
