Rihanna’s #777Tour Plane is About to Turn Into Lord of the Flies

Unless you’ve been under a rock, or staying off Twitter, or somewhere minding your business and living a good life of minimal ratchetness, you’ve heard about Rihanna’s #777 tour by now. If not the tour, then at least the plane that’s on the tour with her. The 777 tour is a 7-day, 7-city, 7 concert tour that Robyn Fenty has decided to partake in. Because that just wasn’t enough excitement (O__O), Rihanna decided to bring 150 fans and journalists on a chartered plane with her.

This sounds like a good old ratchet time. It’s like hoodrat things with friends you didn’t know before, on international waters, in 7 different countries. LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!!! Or so folks thought.

Wells, day one was great times! Rihanna was on the plane pouring bubbly in folks’ glasses and being ratchet with folks. And then that was it for her. They haven’t seen her since. According to this piece on Gawker, written by a journalist who is on the plane, it’s been madness ever since.

“But please picture what it would be like going to your job if there was no toilet, kitchen, water fountain, faucet, or lunch break, and instead of going home at the end of the night, they made you wait standing up in an airport while the person responsible for determining when you go home laid around getting fucked up and wearing European money like pasties.

That’s the clearest way I can try to explain what might seem to the outside observer to be a disproportionate discontent on an otherwise once-in-a-lifetime sort of opportunity.”

Aw damb. And then, the conditions of the plane are deteriorating, and so is the home training everyone came with. Apparently, some Australian journalist stripped to nothing and ran around the plane naked. It sounds awesome. But folks aren’t that amused. Imagine not having a good shower, good rest and good food for days and some joker is free-balling in an airtight space.

That 777 plane probably smells like bad sex, a locker-room and old socks. I feel for everyone who is stuck on it right now. EVERYONE.

And guess who hasn’t had to deal with the debauchery? RIHANNA, of course! And folks are pissed about it. See, most of the people on the plane are actually there to WORK. They have stories to turn in for their respective publications. But because they’ve barely got face time with Ri-Ri, they’ve had very little to report on. How many times can you report on the same concert, replicated seven times? Now, their only reports are the hellish time they’re having on the 777 plane.

The plane is descending into more madness, it seems. The folks on it even managed to make this poster, looking for a Missing Rihanna.

Missing Rihanna 777 Plane

Ok I am CRACKING up at this. First of all,  that picture of Rihanna. Did they stretch out her head? Why does it look like a version of her in a funhouse mirror? Or is her forehead really that big??? Then the details on the flyer are so full of shade. “Weight: 90 pounds or so.” AND HAIR! *cackles* I’m sooo mad they put every color of the rainbow on there, besides blue.

All semblances of them giving a damb is out the window, I see. And really, who can blame them?

Just because you give someone a free trip does not give you the right to treat them like they should be picking cotton. Rihanna’s organizers should have planned this better. I GET what they tried to do but ideas are only as dope as their execution. They meant well but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. You gotta know what to do when you take 150 adults around the world in 7 days. Leaving them eating random snacks and short of water is not what their lives should be about this week.

Chile, folks are about to mutiny on that plane. It’s like Soul Plane on crack with all the ratchetness you can’t imagine.

I’ma keep watching the hashtag #777Tour on Twitter and Instagram. If you wanna be entertained, or at least feel better about you being at home on the couch with no excitement, click that. THAT is what TOO much excitement looks like.

I would say this is a PR nightmare but this is Rihanna so it’s consistent with her persona. But it’s not a great look. I must say. Read the Gawker piece and get more details about why this tour is basically turning into a clusterfuck.

So what do y’all think about this debacle?

Why do they have her looking like Roger the alien from American Dad? I bet each of those folks on that plane had somebody that said it was not a good idea to go. I am crying from laughter!

LMAOOO at Roger from American Dad.

I’ve been following the Gawker articles and its high-larious!

A friend of mine is actually on the plane too and the photo bombing has been insane, she’s assaulting us with pictures of even the bottled water, #777 allday errday and my envy has been through the roof.

Reading the horror stories though, Christ knows I’ve been touched with extreme schadenfraude, like yeeeaaaahhhh, its not that hot is it now, lol.

But yeah, to be perfectly honest, even though I’m a proud Bey stan I love Rihanna so much that Day 1 with the champagne and ratchetness would have been enough for me to completely get my life.

Still wish I was on the #777 plane though 🙁

I’m sorry but the folks on that plane sound miserable. I can’t imagine being stuck on that thing for so long. I’d start hyperventilating after awhile. Plus all that recycled air? NOPE. I’m SUPER good on that.

So these journalist & bloggers thought getting on a plane with Rihanna, going to seven countries in seven days to see the same exact concert seven times was going to be well organized??!!?? LMAO! Ummm No ma’am/sir. If Rihanna’s life is chaotic and a mess what made them think this would be any different.

    • November 20, 2012 at 9:55 am

Well, yeah. The job of the tour manager is to make sure it’s organized. These journos aren’t going on their first press trip like this. I’m sure they’ve been on others and it’s went much smoother. But yeah, it’s Rihanna so I’da had lowered expectations.

I agree about the tour manager making sure its organized but to think that moving up to 300 journalist, bloggers, fans, and photographers around 7 countries in 7 days was going to a well oiled machine isnt realistic. Ive read complaints about the tour being late and running behind and them being tired and not getting enough sleep. None of that suprises me as they are going to seven countries in a week. Ive read about issues people have had with other journalist/bloggers and their behavior.I think Rihanna should be more available to them so I get them being aggravated about that. It all seemed like a bad idea from the begining.

I have no sympathy for them. What the hell made them think that going on a 7 day round the world tour was gonna be fun times. She wasn’t about to be all patty cakin’ with them and telling stories of how she and chris reconciled or didn’t reconcile. I’ve read other reports and they say that the staff on the plane have been great and they’re treating them well and feeding them and supplying all the beverages both alcoholic and not to them that they want. They’re just butt sore that the chick who is doing the shows, interviews, lightings, cameos and what not is sleeping cause she jet lagged as all hell just like them. They’re mad cause the have to report on the same show 7 times…ummm boo, that’s what a tour IS….the same damn show over and over again. Get outta here with that mess. I have no sympathy for those that VOLUNTEERED to go on an all expense paid round the world trip to do their JOBS and report on her tour. NONE WHAT SO EVER. I feel pressed as all hell about this.

    • November 20, 2012 at 9:57 am

But here’s the thing. The journos weren’t just like YAYYY FUN! They’re on the plane to WORK and they can’t even work because they aren’t getting the access they’re supposed to. AND they’re being treated like crap. FUGG THAT. Free or not. You respect people’s time. And part of that respect is at least doing what you promised. I’m sure they didn’t expect to be sleeping on airport floors. They were told they’d be put up. The staff on the plane can only do so much.

FREE trip doesn’t mean I can do whatever the hell I want to with you while on that trip. NAWL.

i agree with every word just typed tiffany. those complaining are the one who assumed they would get all the dirt and inside info about her music, her life, and all things chris brown… it didn’t happen so now they are butthurt and making themselves the story.

go to any page of fans selected to go on this tour and their reaction and comments about the experience is vastly different. not only that for every complaining report there are others that have good things to say about this tour and whatnot. of course the bad are the only ones getting press but i guess that’s how it goes.

but hell give me the opportunity to go to seven countries in seven day and you won’t get a damn complaint from me. and those complaining about seeing the same show over and over… they could have skipped a damn show if it was too much…. i also love your line….. that’s what a tour is…. the same show over and over and over….

      • November 20, 2012 at 10:06 am

The fans aren’t complaining b/c this is probably their first time on a chartered plane. To them, it’s all new adventure. To journos who’ve experience chartered planes before, this is piss poor. Also, THEY ARE FANS! They love Rihanna no matter what she does. To them this is good times. To the people who are there to work, this is like coming to work and finding that you’ve been locked out your office. But you’re still supposed to work.

          November 20, 2012 at 10:48 am

but given the premise what were they [the journalist] really expecting? even from a fan’s perspective the most i thought i would be getting is a ticket to seven shows and stamps in my passport. from the pics i’ve seen they’ve all fans and press alike have been put up in the best hotels, given decent food, got swag bags and trinkets in pretty much every stop on the tour, all while seeing a concert free of charge. sadly some sleep and modern conveniences… wi-fi and a decent night’s sleep… wasn’t always given but them going from different country to different country cut some of that out…

the delays at the airport… all that fault can’t be put and saddled on rihanna… unless she is in control of air clearance and when they can and can’t take off chuck that up to part of travel. yes the delays were long but honestly what could she had done about it? not only that… how fast did they assume the process would be?

by no means am i saying this whole 777 tour has been smooth sailing but come on… i still stand by the notion that most of the complaining is coming from the realization that the thought gabfest just didn’t happening and now they are scrambling for another angle for a story. and those who wanted rih to be the party princess during every part of the tour had the wrong idea from the jump. just like they were on that plane to do a jump so too was rihanna.

Cry me a fuckin river. They can get the fuck outta here with all that complaining. They thought this shit was gonna be all glitz and glam? Uhmm nope. This is what the stars deal with everyday. They’re tired? OK and so is Rihanna she’s working way harder than any of them are. They’re just bitter she’s not sitting ariund talking about chris all day. She probably didn’t want all of them on her plane in the first place.

Are we all reading the same story? It’s okay to treat people like animals because they’re members of the press? Oh okay………

Rhianna isn’t the one who planned every facet of this trip. That’s the tour manager/staff’s job. THEY planned poorly for this. To say the journalists should have expected all this chaos while WORKING is ridiculous.

I wish I would go to work one day, be forced into a small space with a deadline, a gang of drunk people, lack of food and water with this level a chaos going on around me. I’D BE COMPLAINING TOO! Actually I would have “gotten lost” as soon as we got to an airport and started looking for a new job and/or career path. The fact that people think the people complaining are the problem is amazing to me. And by amazing, I mean it’s bullshit!

Right, all the complaining and if it was REALLY that bad they should have called their supervisors and said these accommodations are not conducive to me being able to perform my job to the best of my ability and hopped on the next thing smoking home. NONE OF THEM DID THIS.

I don’t think anyone didn’t have access to a restroom and running water. Airports have restrooms, food courts and the like. They didn’t bring any cash in their pockets just in case something happened, you want a souvenir??? Ummm…get something to eat. I don’t get it.

If they’ve been behind schedule since day 3…they should have realized that everything was going to be behind schedule going forward and gotten accustom to that being their situation since they’re choosing to continue to stay on something that is SO DEPLORABLE that they can’t even use a restroom??? Complaining that you can only sleep at the luxury hotel for nap and a shower each day cause it’s off to the next bus or plane to get to the next venue seems a biiiiiiiiiiit much to me…but you know maybe I’ve lost my sense.

      • November 20, 2012 at 10:50 am

        “NONE OF THEM DID THIS.”

And you know this because… Oh ok. So can you call into work because that day you didn’t feel like it? Nope. These folks have to stick it out. And because they have to stick it out, they have to endure all the bullshit. For dinner last night, they got bananas and donuts. THAT WAS DINNER. They can’t venture out by themselves to go get food so they have to take what they’re given.

Also, they aren’t even being put up in hotels everyday. Sometimes, they’ve slept at airports. Have you read this report? You seem to be coming up w/ your own version of the story.

I’m reading the tweets and the versions of the bloggers from complex, billboard, rolling stone and the like. tweeters 3rika, elliot wilson, j. escobedo shepherd….etc. all have different accounts of what has been going on. i’m not just out here pulling anything out my ass but thanks for asking.

Also, read this journalist’s take: http://popdust.com/2012/11/20/air-rihanna-777-tour-touches-down-in-new-york/. They’ve landed in NYC but she explains the real deal about why they were mad.

I was a good idea conceptually but the “idea” person should have hired some people who know how to execute…spent some of the champagne money on a few experienced tour managers…

I’m not sure why people are so hot to defend Rihanna. If she were not famous she’d people would call her a misguided woman acting like an ass. I’m all for a good time and love to be a bit ratchet myself. But this chick… no she irks me. She seems to be out of control and needs to grow up. For real. Most of the pictures did not look like a good time, they looked hellish and exhausting. I know she’s a “rock star” but a little professionalism wouldn’t hurt.

Further I used to travel all the time for work so I guess technically my tickets were “free” like these journalists. Anyone that must travel for their job (like a pop star) knows that leaving people with no kind of schedule far from home is inexcusable. Period.

As a fan, if I was 20 or under, I would have loved every ratched minute of it. I have actually followed an artist on tour so I get the fanatic part of being a loyal fan.

As a journalist, I would have been pissed. Pretty sure the guy in the sleep mask with the long blonde hair in the link Luvie posted above is the Aussie journalist who streaked through the plane. There’s a fuse video that shows him running through the plane.

People calm down. Let us put things into perspective. The plane is TRANSPORT. It LANDS. The tour is not on the plane, it is at locations. She brought them with her to cover the 7 stops not be her own personal portable stans. The state of the plane is determined by the people on it. Did they want Riri to open a window or something? IT IS A FRIGGIN PLANE!! There were no showers on the first day! I don’t like Riri myself (can’t even spell her name) but I want to call for reason and calm. Let us not cave to the passions and hyperbole of a bunch of spoiled journos who thought they were getting to tour like stars instead of stans 😉 LOVE YOU LUVVIE!!
