A Criminal, A Whore, An Idiot and a Liar: Scandal Episode 211 Recap

[ 86 ] January 18, 2013 |

Scandal went off air over 30 minutes ago and I’m sitting on this couch wondering what my life is about. I mean GAHTDAMB. This episode didn’t murk my spirit in the last 5 minutes like normal. Instead, the entire episode just slayed me completely. Every scene was as important as the last and we found out some important background information that explains a lot of the present shenanigans of the League of Goons.

Fitz Lives Scandal

Criminal, Whore, Idiot, Liar – Liv walks into her apartment to find Senator Pudding Pop waiting for her. He accosts her and says he has figured out why she won’t let him see the President. He tells her she’s covering up the forgery of his signature, and the reason she’s so touched about it is that she’s his mistress. Liv looks in his face and tells him “In the pat three minutes, you called me a criminal, a whore, an idiot and a liar.” Then she gives him a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 countdown and tells him to gerrout! Chile, PudPop TRIED IT and she read for FILTH backwards. OOP!

Flashback to Grant Campaign – The first of flashbacks to the campaign of President Ghost, back when he was still Governor Ghost had Olivia rocking a black suit. If you notice, most of the times when Liv is in black, it’s from the past. She rarely ever wears black in the present. Ennehweighs, we see the way the League of Goons forms when Hollis meets with Cyrus and Olivia and not so jokingly mentions that he could rig the campaign. Liv shuts it down but you don’t get in bed with the devil (Hollis) and expect your hands will remain clean.

Back at the White House, Mellie’s flipping out at Governor Ghost, and then tells Liv to talk to him since he listens to her. The Guv takes the opportunity to make out with Liv in another room. Chile, they’re so lustful and Mellie keeps giving them opportunities for it.

Side-Effects and Snitching Sally – The President is out the coma (of course) and his doctor is telling him that he might suffer from side-effects because of the brain injury. She tells him he might have aphasia, losing the ability to talk and not finding your words. She says it might affect his ability to make decisions and his personality might change a bit. I wonder how it’ll affect his relationship with Liv (and I guess Mellie). Meanwhile, Sally meets with the Cabinet to say she is asking for them to deny President Ghost’s reinstatement into office because he is not ready to run the country. Everyone stands up suddenly, and she looks behind her. Fitz is there, looking presidential, with Mellie behind him. The look on her face was worth 1,000 wig snatches.

MorningEveryoneScandal ScandalSally

His Body is Not Ready – Liv and Cyrus show up to see the members of the Cabinet filing out, saying how great Fitz looks. As they pass VP Sally, she gives Cyrus a stare that could cut a hole through titanium. OOP. She’s mad. They enter the Oval Office and Fitz is loosening his tie and sweating. He’s clearly not ready for a lot of activity, as he’s weak. He tells Mellie that she forced him out the hospital before his stitches heal, but it was to save her own ass, since she forged his signature. Ut oh. He might not be ready for this.

Daddy unDearest – They flashback to Ghost’s campaign, when he was getting prepped for debates by Liv. In comes his father, Thomas Grant II, who he had already expressed disdain for when they told them they wanted him involved. Daddy Spin City walks in the room and takes over. Fitz is obviously not pleased and rolls his eyes as his father has the room eating out his palm. Daddy issues on 10!

Later that day, the team was at dinner and Daddy Spin City was asking about campaign strategy and offering up unsolicited advise. “Why aren’t you digging up dirt on Reston.” “We want to run the campaign clean.” “I think that’s weak!” President Ghost gets irritated, seems drunk already and basically has had enough of his dad. He proceeds to read him for filth, saying he knows pops wishes he could have run for president, but he was too busy sleeping with prostitutes. WELPY MCWELPINGTON!

Drunken Douche in Elevator – After the dinner ends awkwardly, Governor Ghost stumbles in the elevator, running into Liv. When the door closes, he tries to kiss Liv and pin her against the wall. She pushes him away and he keeps trying and then the elevator door opens.

scandal Elevator Douche 2

Mellie’s standing there and President Ghost drunkenly apologizes and sways off. She apologizes profusely for her lush husband’s bad behavior, hugging Liv and telling her how much she appreciates her. Either the woman was incredibly out of the loop about her hubby and Liv or she was playing dumb to not lose someone who is key to her becoming First Lady.

This was one of the first times that I’ve felt uncomfortable with Liv and Fitz’s interaction. Drunk or not, him trying to force herself on her made me wince.

Can He Run It? – His first meeting back in the White House after injury is with the defense team. VP Sally sits in, since she’s still acting President. Fitz starts talking and in the middle of his sentence, he stops, obviously unable to form the words he needs. Sally relishes the moment and I can tell she plans on using it for later shade.

Campaign Takes Turn – In a flashback, Daddy Spin City scolds Governor Ghost for being weak in the campaign. He tells him to get down and dirty in order to win against Reston, and a punked Ghost goes along with it. Olivia calls in 3 random folks for a diner meeting, and they turn out to be Harrison, Abby and Huck (who shows up looking like the abominable snowman). She tells them to go find out anything sordid from Governor’s Reston’s past. The Gladiators were all strangers then but their wonder powers activated!

Thomas Grant Scandal 2

But then Daddy Spin City didn’t like the info they came up with. Talmbout “Perhaps we need more experience and house-trained people on this.” GET YOUR LIFE! Don’t come for Huck! He’s such a jerk!

Formation of the League – Hollis, Liv, Cyrus and Verna meet to discuss Governor Ghost’s campaign and Hollis brings up the rigging possibility again. Liv ain’t tryna hear it and shuts it down. Just then, Mellie walks up and asks what they’re talmbout. Hollis invites her to take a seat with them, thus forming the League of Goons, as Liv looks on with disapproval all over her face.

Fitz Flips Out – The campaign is wearing on Gov Ghost and he’s more than cranky since he’s 7 points down. When he throws a tantrum at some of the A/V guys setting up a townhall meeting, Liv steps in and gives him a stern talking to. He tells her to do her job and she hits him with “I was getting worried you thought my job was getting felt up in elevators by candidates.” Throw ALL that shade, girl!

POPUS’ Sweet Moment – In present day, Liv shows up to the White House to see Fitz (while rocking an amazing cape jacket) because he wants to speak at a press briefing. And she doesn’t think he’s ready. She sees him sitting behind his desk in the Oval Office looking weak, and dabs his forehead. “You almost died.” “Yes.” “Don’t do it again.” “Ok.” THERE THEY GO BEING CUTE AGAIN! Aw Popus (Pope + POTUS). Adorabo.

Scandal Liv 3Scandal Fitz 4

Preparing Fitz Now and Then – Scandal did an amazing job of showing Olivia prep Fitz for a press conference he had against Gov. Reston during his campaign and the one he has post-shooting. Both events are important because in the campaign one, Daddy Spin City wants Ghost so divulge the fact that Reston has a prozac addiction. In the present one, no one is sure that Fitz is physically strong enough to make it through.

Seems Like He’s Ready – Someone asks Governor Grant why they should trust him to run the country. This was the perfect set up to snitch on Reston. As Daddy Spin City and the rest of the team look on, Fitz goes off the page and answers honestly, not including Reston’s dirt, pissing off his father and making Liv proud. She realizes that he might be ready to run the country, afterall.

At the present day press briefing, a reporter asks President Ghost if he’s able to run the country, since he’s recovering from a shooting and might have PTSD. Fitz pauses for a while, takes a long sip of water, and gives a great answer, basically saying he’s more ready than ever. YESSS! That must been holy water he gulped.

VP Sally’s Fake Class – After seeing President Ghost stand behind the podium and restore America’s faith in him as a leader, VP Sally was left choiceless. She shows up to the Oval Office and graciously accepts his reinstatement as president. Good for her! E’em though I’m still looking at her sideways. She cannot be trusted.

Daddy Bites Dust – The League is still trying to convince Liv to agree to rigging the election so Gov. Ghost can have a fighting chance. She refuses and goes to talk to Fitz, who looks shell-shocked. Turns out that Daddy Spin City had a heart attack and died, after his tantrum against Fitz, where he called him a loser and says he’ll never win. Damb.

After the funeral, Liv finds Ghost chopping wood angrily. She commends him on the nice things he said about his father, and he tells him that he made it up. He spent his 10th birthday listening to his pops get his freak on with his secretary. This might explain some things. He stops being angry for a bit and sobs into Olivia’s dress. Meanwhile, where’s Mellie? Right.

Fitz sobs Fitz sobs 2

Asking for Marriage and Divorce – Presently, Liv comes home and Senator Pudding Pop is sitting on her couch ONCE AGAIN. And he starts apologizing profusely to her, saying he was wrong and sexist and foolish for accusing her of being the President’s mistress. And for accusing her of helping to forge his signature. “I love you. I am in love with you. I don’t care what you’ve done. If you have me I will very much like to marry you.” NAWL! Umm… how are you gon propose to her when she’ont e’em like you that much?

Back at the White House, President Ghost is in bed looking ragged and Mellie is getting ready for bed. She’s talking a mile a minute about nothing important and he’s looking at her like he wishes she’d just shut the hell up. She sits next to him and asks him what he wants because she’ll get it for him. He says “I want a divorce.” OOOOOOOOHHHH SNAP!!! BET she wasn’t expecting that for his wish list! WELP!!!

Mighty Morphin Rigging Rangers – The only person who hasn’t agreed to rigging the election for Gov. Ghost is Liv, so Cyrus lets her know how important it is to get him in office. He tells her “People like us, we create history. We run this world.” Overwhelmed by the tremendous pleasure, Olivia busts a *wall slide* and sits on the floor. She realizes that if she wants to see Fitz as POTUS, she has one decision to make. This was Liv:

Wallslide Cartoon gif

The League meets up and with tears in her eyes, Liv says “yes.” Without hesitation, Hollis pulls out his phone and orders someone to go ahead. Olivia crumbles into tears, because that decision is against everything she stands for.

CHILE! Shonda and her team don’t want me to live right! We see previews for next episode (WHICH DOESN’T COME ON FOR TWO WHOLE WEEKS!!! WHY US, LAWD???) and Mellie might be going into labor. Also, David is back and gunning to bring Liv back. YES GAWD, I AM HERE FOR IT ALL!!! I have so many feelings!

feelings gif

Woooo!!! So whatcha’ll think of this ep? I LOVED seeing Fitz’s pops. It explains some things about him. Also, Daddy Spin City was awesome casting.

YAAAS!! All of this!! Me and my girl were like “but, WHERE THE HELL IS MELLIE?!?” in that chopping wood scene. She must have WANTED Fitz to have an affair, because her azz was always gone. SMH

That feelings gif was me at the tv when that shyt said “In TWO weeks.” WHY YOU PLAYING SHONDA?!?!!? WHY YOU PLAYING?!?!!?

    • Soapbubble says:

Mellie was probably with her boyfriend. She is a mess. I still don’t think that’s Fitz’s baby and I think she was working with Verna on the assassination attempt.

  2. JayOh says:

Who knew Fitz had daddy issues. Yes, how do you allow your husband to cry in the womb of his must be known mistress??

  3. Crys says:

I think Fritz will be heartbroken if he finds out Liv didn’t trust him to win on his own. I think Mellie is smarter and more devious than she appears…and I don’t think the baby is Fritz’s. I think Liv made one huge mistake, for the man she loves, and has been trying to fix it ever since. The elevator was Fritz, again turning to Liv..but in a wrong way. But his Dad had him so messed up, the campaign was being messed up…no excuse though. He kinda of has been channeling his daddy anyway…with Mellie help? Seriously , I think she is the one to watch. ” We’re back” is all she cares about ….. She has her own agenda beyond being the first lady.

  4. Tarah says:

Luvvie, I hate and love everything you stand for with these damb gifs!!

  5. crlsweetie says:

my soul will be empty and vexed for two whole weeks, too many questions…..my selfofsteem will be zero….I can’t!!!!

  6. minacakes says:

    TWO WEEKS!!!!! man listen….

I got a question. WHERE are the Mellie and Fitz Jr? They just wrote them out of the story. They ain’t there ever.

    TWO FLIPPING WEEKS!!! :(

  7. Lisa says:

I literally screamed at the TV, “TWO WEEKS?!?!” This is so unfair! We’ve already had more than enough breaks during Season 2. Does anyone else remember those dark times during the presidential election and the Country Music Awards (I don’t count the holiday break as malevolent. Mother Shonda wanted us to have holiday time with our families without the Scandal-induced distractions.)?

Episode was brilliant! We got to watch the birth of the Leagu of Goons! Plus we know understand some of Fitz’s issues…Daddy issues, of course!

And did anyone else feel Liv channeling Sally Hemmings in that shawl out by the wood pile?

I am hyped about next episode. What has David figured out? What’s going on with the gladiators?

  8. DJ says:

The feelings .gif, though….HAAAAAAA!!! I cain’t STAND you, Luvvie! I on’t e’em know why I fool with you!!! Great recap, per usual, though :-) Two weeks? Shonda just does us any ole kinda way, and we are here for all of it. Clearly.

  9. Lea says:

This might crazy…but I think Hollis “be the daddy” of Mellie’s baby…

    • ChunkyDlyte says:

I really do NOT think that Fitz is the father. I need to re-watch the episodes when she first became pregnant because I don’t remember if Fitz looked shocked. BUT Mellie is SO sneaky should would have tricked Fitz into thinking he slept with her or she probably pulled a Maury and don’t know who the father is. I am hoping for a “In the case of Mellie’s baby, Fitz you are NOT the father” < LOL

      • Bre says:

I don’t know. I think he is the father because the whole Mellie getting knocked up thing was Liv’s idea to get the people’s mind of Fitz’s possible affair. Fitz was about to give it all up when Liv said nawl….We announced that Mellie was pregnant to save your career, so ya’ll need to get busy and make it happen.

      • Lea says:

LOL.. I’m sayin though.. That crackahollis be that daddy!

  10. Erica says:

The first thing I did this morning with pray thank God for waking me up and then I came to your site. See what had happened was I fell asleep putting my son to sleep so I only saw the 1st 30min but I knowed that you would have the detalis that would bring me back to life and outta a deep Scandal depression! Thank you luvie THANK YA *Mr. Brown voice*

  11. Shazza says:

First of all-TWO WEEKS? Great job, Luvvie. And Sally can’t be trusted, remember Hollis told her to let it go so they could watch Fitz fall on his face. And doesn’t Hollis have a company to run? He’s at the White House ALL the time! And Sally doesn’t have any other allies? Why is she listening to Hollis? Has she ever addressed losing her first assistant? I know we saw the other Huck in the elevator with him at the end of the season but have they ever mentioned him again?
I felt uncomfortable during that elevator scene too. And Huck looking like Hagrid is NOT the business! I’m trying to understand is that supposed to be how he looks or is that ridiculous disguise? Cuz that hair & beard just screams high school makeup dept.
When Fitz was crying into Olivia’s bosom, I asked my hubby ‘Where are the paparazzi? If his opponent wanted some dirt on him, he’s right in the open hugging up on his ‘campaign help’!
    Oh Shanda!

    • Bre says:

Huck was living on the street before Liv took him in and put the Gladiators together…that was brought out when the whole “How Quinn Got Her Life Back” thing was explained. He actually looked like that for a while…I know…it’s sad.

    • Crista says:

Huck is homeless in all of the flashback scenes, which is why he looks all dirty and overgrown.

  12. CaliGirlED says:

As always your recap is spot on! Of course you pointed out some things that I missed, but that’s ok, I’ll catch them when I watch it again.

The birth of the League of Goons and understanding some of Fitz’ issues was wonderfully intertwined. I am one that’s all for looking back to see how folks got to where they are now. Hence my love for Godfather II! Shonda is BRILLIANT!!!

Your gifs are always entertaining but that wall slide slayed me! And that last one was me after they announced TWO WEEKS!!!

  13. ChunkyDlyte says:

LOVE YOUR RECAP!! Glad to see that I wasn’t the only one who screamed TWO WEEKS back at the tv. Most shows can’t make me wait for two weeks before I forget it even comes on tv (Looking at you 2 Broke Girls) but I hate that Shonda knows that we will wait because Scandal is my life! Every Thursday my life comes to a complete stand still just for Scandal and your tweets/recap and I love it! This episode gave me so much insight into Fitz and yes that elevator scene was a bit too date rapey for me, but it makes sense seeing his Daddy issues (You kill me with Daddy Spin City)And that whole marry Pudding Pop /divorce Mellie cliffhanger that has me dying to jump in my time machine and set it for exactly two weeks or become a hacker (is there a class for that) so I can steal the next episode directly from the abc server, I LOVE this dang show!1

  14. I am all over the place with my comment post, sorry for it’s un-ending-ness:

    1) THAT “FEELINGS” GIF!!!! YES. I screamed “two whole weeks!” and all my friends were like shhhh!, trying to hear the scenes from the next episode. But I coulda cried. How she gonna do us like that??? I am not your plaything, Shonda! (Yes I am. Clearly.)

    2) I LOVED the cinematography of this episode. Sooo many locations! The airplane scenes (and it’s awesome lighting), and ESPECIALLY that mirrored hallway!! Wow, they are on some next level stuff. This ain’t a mere tv show, that’s all I’m saying. Even the way this whole season played out, telling the story backwards and piecemeal all the way from the first ep of the season. That is some craftsmanship typically reserved for haute couture beading or something: HELLA intricate.

Every scene with the League of Goons floored me. My brain woulda been way to full to play that kind of game of chess. To get me in politics, I would definitely need Albus Dumbledore’s pensieve. Siphon off my thoughts for a bit to get my mind a REST, chile.

    3) I’m mad Pudding Pop figured everything ALL the way out. I’m not on his side, and I know Liv couldn’t do anything but deny it all, but it’s a shame that everything he said was true and then HE had to apologize. Ah welp. *Got an issue? Here’s a tissue, PudPop.*

I’m even madder that his behind still had a key to her house. Dude, do I need to get a rottweiler???

    4) I was uncomfortable as hell during that elevator scene!! Oh snap. And Mellie, girlfriend cain’t be that blind. She wants to be First Lady, and like you said, Liv is essential to getting her there. #period

    5) I WANT A DIVORCE!! *mind blown*

    6) Did anybody see how Abby thought Harrison was kinda cute til she heard he had a parole officer? hahaha! Her hair looked great curled. She had a buoyant, girlish quality. I wonder if the Gladiators became a group BEFORE her husband beat her…?

    7) THAT WOOD-SPLITTING SCENE!! First of all, splitting wood is no joke, especially with that kind of accuracy. Kudos to the actor for delivering his lines so well while wielding an AXE on some skinny wood, espec with no artful camera-work to splice the scene together. Burrowing his face in Liv’s womb and sobbing… that is such a vulnerable moment to have with a man.

    8) Cyrus chirping, “Good morning, Vice President Sally!” gave me LIFE. Hahaha, oh the delicious shade! #stepdownheffa

Speaking of her monkey @ss, her concession speech to Fitz may have won his heart, but bump her. She seemed well-rested during her lil’ Presidential costume party to me. Talkin bout she hasn’t slept a wink and don’t want the job of president. She can kiss my whole en-tire bootie. #thewholething

    Ok, I’m done!!! ♥♥♥

    • Bre says:

“She seemed well-rested during her lil’ Presidential costume party to me. Talkin bout she hasn’t slept a wink and don’t want the job of president. She can kiss my whole en-tire bootie. #thewholething”

HAHAHAHAH – Not the whole thing?

    • Mz. Joy says:

Re: 4) If you look at the way Mellie is played (acted) pre-election, she is much more innocent looking. Her style of dress, mannerisms, even hairstyles are much more laid back. In the episode where we find out she knows for sure, her whole demeanor changed in an instant. It’s worth looking back at past episodes. The actress that plays Mellie is actually playing her very well!

      • You are so right. She did switch up once she talked to Olivia …Or maybe she was just acting. But you’re right, she did look genuinely thrown for a loop in the episode. Ok, so maybe she had just been so blinded by her desire to get into the White House that she just didn’t see what was in front of her.

I still think her reaction was strange when she caught them in the elevator. I can’t imagine seeing my man do that, not just because it looks like cheating, but I wouldn’t be able to help but wonder: are you some kind of rapist? How far would this have gone if I hadn’t stopped it?? Liv was clearly struggling.

    • ScandalFanGirl says:

@ 6), I looked for a weeding ring and I didn’t see one. So i’m thinking that it must have been shortly thereafter, because she wasn’t nearly as “jaded” as she is in present day.

  15. Miss Hope says:

I want to say that I quit you after that feelings gif…but it would just be in vain cuz I’ma be right hurr on this blog for more foolishment in a day or two.

Anyhoo I got my entire life when Mellie talmbout “you can have anything you want!! What do you want?” And POTUS dropped it like it was hot “I want a divorce”

I dropped the mic FOR him after that! I was too through.

  16. Flyy says:

YASSSSS chile YAASSS!! *two finger snaps*

I’ont eeem know where to begin. Lemme just say that Shonda has turned me into the biggest conspiracy theory nut ever. When Fitz said his Daddy died, I just KNEWED Huck did it for saying he needed “home training”. Huck was fully about that life then.

It was great to see the birth of the league… b/c you know one thing that never sat right w/ me was how much Liv said she believed in the POTUS during the campaign and her signing on to rigging the election. She seemed to ‘straight & narrow’ for that, but I understand now. ’twas not an easy decision for her to make. [But if POTUS finds out... heads will roll!]

Is no one in the League concerned that they haven’t seen/heard from Hollis in a while? Doesn’t that seem out of the ordinary for him? What ya’ll gon do bout this man?

Lastly… as I said to my boyfriend last night, I too believe that casting Daddy Spin City was an excellent choice. I love that Scandal is so well put together it makes me notice things like casting decisions. I live Shonda!! I LIVE!!!

    • Bre says:

“When Fitz said his Daddy died, I just KNEWED Huck did it for saying he needed “home training”. Huck was fully about that life then.”

Girl..I didn’t even think about it til you said something. I thought it was just karma for him being an ass. You got me on the floor laughing.

    • Desireé says:

You may be on to something!! (re: Huck killing the dad). I do seem to remember hearing somebody saying something about him killing people and making it look like a heart attack….. Hmmmmmmmm…………

    • Raquita says:

The league, or at least Olivia knows that Hollis was responsible for the shooting.. how they use that is gonna be epic, I think that is what will get them out of this whole mess…

  17. Bre says:

So I have a few things that I would like to say…Damb that girl Shonda can write up a drama…I’m all here for her. Okay so you killed me with “the look on her face was worth 1,000 wig snatches.” Sally looked like her dog shat in her Louboutins.

I was also a bit uncomfortable with drunk Fitz trying to get his freak on in the elevator..I was like what if there’s a camera in there..plus I think Liv was kinda uncomfortable with how he reacted to his dad…asshole or not. On the other hand, Mellie ain’t fooling no gawt damb body…I refuse to believe she is that effin oblivious, especially since she is one of the biggest snakes in the grass next to Wig-Snatched Sally and Hollis.

How is it that Liv is the only one at the damb table of goons with morals? When Hollis brought Mellie in it, I was thinking she’d be just as offended as Liv with the idea of rigging the election, but Mellie’s all like “you can have anything you want”. WTF? When did this shit become okay? Even Verna and Cyrus took some convincing, but Mellie just jumped in there like it was her plan.

Lastly, I want to discuss this divorce, marriage thing. I think Fitz should watch his back. Mellie is not just finna take this lying down. In response to Crys, I do think the baby is Fitz’s but I also think you are absolutely right about Mellie being focused on much more than being the FLOTUS. I remember in “All Roads Lead to Fitz” she was trying to get her “fifteen minutes” on while he was away because she wanted to show she can do what he can do…Hell Mellie might be trying to take the presidency from Fitz now that she’s a woman scorned. #Welp

I only got one thing to say about Edison Davis – If Liv says yes to him…we are no longer friends. #JustSayNo

    • maverick says:

Re: Edison Davis….How does he go from calling Liv a “criminal, a whore, an idiot and a liar” to then asking her to marry him?? I don’t trust it one bit! He’s suspect. He’s not a good fit for Liv. I concur. She better just say no. It shouldn’t even be up for discussion. There’s nothing to think about. He just called you all of these derogatory names and NOW he wants you to marry him?? Something is not right with this.

      • Timika Hite says:

I think Puddin Pop is just trying to get in the know. There is no way you can go from you are a criminal and a whore to I want to marry you that fast. He knows Liv knows more than he does and he wants some dirt so he can blackmail people. Liv better not marry that man. Something just isn’t right with him.

  18. Cliff says:

@Luvvie Where do you get those gif clips from the show? Do you create them yourself? Also, (not ever seeing season 1) how much of those flashbacks were aired on the 1st season? Are we supposed to be seeing these clips from the past for the first time or are they just season 1 recaps? (I h8 missing the 1st season in a series, same thing happened with 24!)

  19. NicoleLisa says:

I am so here for that Little Mermaid wall slide gif!!!

I spent a lot of last night trying to figure out how Eddison kept welcoming himself into Olivia’s apartment. Can you imagine coming home and finding someone who doesn’t belong, there already there? I’m like dang dude…you’re here again???

I just love these recaps Luvvie!

  20. Tiffany says:

Ok so I wanted to express some of my theories before reading your post (which is great so far, btw).

    1. Remember the part where Pope asked Hollis why he was so interested in seeing Fitz win? Well, I think it was more about Sally then Fitz. I think he knows he can’t convince Fitz with all his morals, to build the pipeline he wants and that’s why he tried to assassinate him. You see how far up Sally’s a$$ he was when Fitz was in a coma? We know he’s the one who set it up, and now he is basically Sally’s advisor. He knew he could get what he wanted from her, not Fitz. Fitz has always been the gateway to Sally.

    2. I DO NOT trust Edison. This man is the head of the U.S. Senate. Obviously, smart, educated, and accomplished which means he could have a line of heauxs after him. He dated Olivia for a few years and broke up. She keeps dismissing his a$$ at every turn, he thinks she had an affair with the President, and then he asks her to marry him?? Seems suspicious as all hell to me. Men like that need their egos stroked, they are not trying to be dismissed by their partner on a consistent basis, as Liv has done him. I was never here for Edison, but now I have a feeling he’s working with Hollis and Sally, too.

    3. Lastly, of course I want Fitz and Liv together, but I am so afraid of when Fitz finds out how they rigged the election. Cause you KNOW he will. And, you saw how much he wanted to win. He’s not gonna be happy knowing they cheated his way into office, and that Liv was apart of it. I feel that anything could break them up, it’s Fitz finding out the truth.

Ok, needed to get that out there. Back to reading.

    • LadyLarke says:

@ #1 I never thought that completely through before, now you’re making me see the light!!! LOL Fitz has too many morals (and an actual head on his shoulder) to give in to Hollis’ tomfoolery, but Sally is just the right idiot to do his bidding. That’s why he wanted Fitz out, dead or alive. Yeah I see it now…

  21. Mz. Joy says:

    1) I HATE YOU for that .gif of that little girl from The Help. Not gonna lie I teared up just seeing it

    2) I need for Columbus Short to just replace Senator Pudding Pop. Something about his voice + his nose just takes me to a place I don’t ever want to be.

    3) Also, Columbus Short (yes you must always say his whole name when referring to him) could get alllllllllllllllllllllllll The Business.

    4) I Love You Effie. I Sho’ Nuff Do!

    • Bre says:

OMG Mz. Joy not all The Business? LOL

I’m just glad to see that I’m not the only one who thinks if Liv and Ghost can’t be together, than she should be with Harrison. I kind of find it funny that I never really paid him any attention until two episodes ago. You know “get your ass back here NOW!!!” The underoos came off LOL

      • I almost never drop responses, however I browsed
a great deal of comments on this page A Criminal, A Whore, An Idiot and a Liar:
Scandal Episode 211 Recap | Awesomely Luvvie. I actually do have a
couple of questions for you if you do not mind. Is it simply me or does it give the impression like a few of the responses appear like
they are left by brain dead individuals? :-P And, if
you are writing on other sites, I’d like to follow you.
Would you list of all of all your public sites like
your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

  22. RozB says:

    1. Why must Edison, aka Senator Claymation, even be still here? Why for that Shonda, hmm? First, he calls Liv a ho, throws a fit putting his man panties in a bunch, and she has to kick him out. But NOOOOOOOOO – he comes back and proposes?!?!?! What part of the game is that? BTW – in the previews the shot of her talking to Fitz on the phone was tight, but I suspect Edison was in the bed sleep next to her. I hope not – got Liv’s bed smelling all “raisin-y” and shit…

    2. Sally might need a bladder sling, since it looked like she dropped all her lady parts when Fitz showed up during her briefing. Even I yelped. It was triumphant, and I lived for Cyrus throwing and entire moon of shade on Sally in the hallway.

    3. How far does Liv go back with Fitz? Every time they are alone they are humping each other. Personally, I think Mellie knows what Liv is there for and welcomes it. Why do you think she begged Liv to stay after seeing her husband all over Liv in the elevator like a drunk octopus? Mellie be knowing – she just did not expect him to fall all in love with Olivia.

    4. Hollis is so horrible he must smell like sulfur and pure D. evil. It is gonna get ugly when Fitz finds out Liv allowed the election to be rigged. I see it down the line. Perhaps for the third season?

    5. Huck looked like a mini Hagrid with all his hairiness and funk. Harrison and Abby could barely stand sitting with him. BTW – Abby’s hair looked like it was licked by unicorns. I like it with some body. Still not feeling her, but…

    6. Big Daddy Fitz was overbearing and bigger than life – I expected that. I felt bad for Fitz, but it was awesome to see how Liv had Fitz’s back. Meanwhile, Mellie did not give one damn just as long as they can be in a position to win.

Luvvie, the last GIF was me all in my emotions – a glass box of emotions! But to wait for two weeks?!?!?!Who does ABC’s programming? ‘Cuz they need to be scissor-kicked in the back of the head. Glad you were able to see it and post your re-cap, seeing as you will be deep in inaugural festivities this weekend. Enjoy alla it!

To folks who are tripping over the Liv/Fitz romance storyline – go get your life. Please hurry, because we need you to hush while we enjoy our show. The sanctimonious tweet crowd just could not keep still!

    Best Scandal re-cap around!

    • Tiffany A says:

This captured every single feeling I had!!! YES!!! Cackling at Abby’s hair being licked by unicorns!!!

    • Tiffany says:

“I lived for Cyrus throwing and entire moon of shade on Sally in the hallway.” THIS!!!! The way he said VICE President Langston was SO SHADEFUL it gave me liiiife!!!

  23. Rachael says:

This show is great writing. They need to teach a class on this and do some serious analyzing. Not sure where I am right now on the whole Liv and the President’s relationship. I find it interesting how the fact that Mellie is a jerk becomes the justification for him to have that relationship with Liv. I don’t think she was always like this, I remember in earlier episodes when Liv was helping the woman whose husband was a well known Reverend and she found out that he was cheating and had a child for the first time after he died, and the way Mellie was with her, led me to believe that there was a time when she didn’t know what was going on. That could be why she is so cold and calculating now, let her get hers out of the situation, since he’s obviously getting his. Shonda Rhimes seems to like to get us to root for mistresses on her shows, I think that is a sign of showing us that everyone has many layers and you can’t just put someone in a box. The fact that I took the time to write all this about a television proves that this woman knows what she’s doing.

  24. “drunk octopus”, “hair licked by unicorns”, and “scissor-kicked in the back of the head” FOR THE WIN. :)

  25. overit says:

OK, commenting on here is long overdue.

Every time I see Huck from the past I’m like hayyy Hagrid! I just have so many emotions re: his whole story. How they just gonna leave him in the street like that? I’m still not over him getting tortured. I was actually waiting to see him all episode:(

What the hell Mellie! She is so self serving it’s disgusting. The man is laying in bed lookin like he can’t breathe and you are ranting about seizing the political moment. I kept waiting for him to tell her to STFU but then he said he wants a divorce…well damn!

All the flashbacks really helped shed light on what makes up Fitz as a person, and how the league of GOONS formed. Every time Hollis talks I want to take a shower. He is just so evil! And his country phrases kill me. I want to jot them down one day but….aint nobody got time.

Edison: Didn’t Olivia Dope tell you Bye! Gone then!

Too much, too much.o I’m gonna let this marinate…but you are so right re: Sally. She aint done yet! She scary at me, loool!

Last thought: I’ont even think Fitz fathered this woman’s children. Mellie is sleeping with the secret service guy! Or Hollis! Babies are conceived in love or lust, not resignation and FML. I don’t know…

  26. Regina says:

Very often, I find it easy to forget that at the end of it all, Liv and Fitz are having an affair, and that I shouldn’t root for them. BUT, when Mellie hopped on that elevator and started apologizing…I gotta admit it hit home that they done did ol’ girl real wrong.

Other than that…the whole epsiode was amazing and you summed it perfectly. (gifs and all LOL)

    • RozB says:

Mellie knew back then, and she is okay with it. She knew her husband was fiending for Liv, and she always found ways to leave them alone. Look at how many times she gracefully left the room, or sent Liv in to “talk” to Fitz about something. Mellie is her husband’s supplier, his “madam”, if you will. She just never expected it to blossom into love and him wanting to leave her for the mistress.

      • Anonya says:

EZACKLY! She already knew then, just didn’t expect Fitz to get careless with it (esp when most elevators have cameras!). Above all, she was was all about the win, and was scared that their key to it (Liv) might quit and leave the campaign screwed. So she apologized like hell. Ain’t nobodeh pulling the wool over Mellie’s eyes…

        • Nichole says:

No…I honestly believe that it all came together when that flag pin was missing and she gave it back to Olivia. That was AFTER he got elected. Mellie is so busy trying to get into the White House, she wouldn’t care if Fitz was running around with flames coming out his ears just as long as it didn’t hurt him politically.

  27. Leeyah D says:

Man my family thought I had a heart attack when I screamed “TWO MORE WEEKS”

  28. JustJosie says:

Luvvie, Great Recap! I nearly died at the wall slide. I agree with everyone’s comments. Fitz would be heartbroken if he knew about Liv’s role in the election rigging, because what Liv thinks of him is his everything. I still believe that there is more to that story.

Dayum…Two weeks??? Does anybody else feel like Shonda’s bytch?

  29. Jasmine says:

I didn’t like the elevator scene, but more because of Mellie apologizing to Liv and hugging the girl. Kinda put that whole “you’re sleeping with HER husband thing” up in our faces. :-/

Shonda got me with that last scene. Fitz had his hand on Mellie’s BELLY and asked her for a divorce. The DOG, LOL!

Should be some interesting twists and turns coming up.

  30. overit says:

    @ RozB: I agree!!

  31. Nik says:

I think he was upset with Mellie talking so damn much because all she was talking about was campaign stuff and not asking “How are you doing, baby? Is your previously shot-up brain feeling ok?”

  32. Mimi says:

I actually like the character Mellie. The actress that plays her does a good job with this role. I think people always play her to the left like she’s dumb but she is far from it. Is she a tad “focused” on her FLOTUS post…yep however I think she actually loves Fitz but its a lot of water under that bridge. I also don’t think she knew about POPUS in the beginning. My favorite part of this episode was Cyrus and Sally in the hallway…could he have been any happier to shut her down. I LOVE these recaps and I’m so happy to have found this blog. It cracks me up and the GIFs are so on point.
And let me not end my post without cosigning that Harrison aka Columbus Short could get it all day and twice on Sundays lol.

    • Rae says:

I also like Mellie’s character. I like to say that while Olivia is crying over her husband, she straps on the big girl drawers and keeps it moving…

  33. Rae says:

Love Scandal…but think Prez and Livvie are getting too farcical. He’s supposed to be this nice, caring guy, but what about his kids? He keeps trying to leave his job to be with Liv…I mean really (the Great Sandford Escape). I love Olivia when she’s doing her thing and working her cases. She comes across as weak as Eddison when it comes to the Prez. Still love the dynamic of the show and can’t wait for the next episode. Who do you think is Mellie’s baby’s daddy?

    • Juanette says:

I think your points about Prez and Olivia being weak is to show the layers that real people have and that people do have weaknesses. Think of any scandal (political or otherwise) that’s been in the public eye, it is usually because of some human failure or weakness and more often than not, sexual in nature. People usually ask “How could he/she be so stupid?” because it’s not a rational or plausible decision to jeopardize their situations. Scandal is just mirroring real life but on a grander scale by using the President and his ‘fixer.’

  34. ErikaJ says:

Daddy Spin City, is the reason why Liv said yes. I believe Mellie invited him as bait for Liv, notice he didn’t show up till after Hollis pitched the rigged voting idea. Mellie is sneaking like that, she knew President Ghost had daddy issues. Remember after Liv’s epic wall slide, she was remembering all of the horrible things Daddy Spin City was saying about President Ghost and that’s why she said yes.

  35. Q says:

All I can say is Hollis has some HUGE brass ones to still be lurking the halls of the White House knowing that the person he hired to kill the Pres has been arrested and could possibly name him during the ‘interrogation’.

Or, maybe he is being framed??

  36. GfromtheD says:

For me, the best moment of the episode was in the last scene. Mellie tells Fitz she’s glad things are going to back to the way they were and he gives her the most epic side-eye. I laughed out loud and nearly missed him asking for a divorce.

  37. Scribeprince says:

    Dear Awesomely Luvvie,

I did a bad thing and I must confess. I strayed and read a recap of Scandal on a mainstream website. I won’t name names… but then again, what the heck?

Ew.com finally recapped Scandal and you should have seen the comment section that followed. Folks were steamed because whoever wrote it obviously does not even like the show. It sounded like it was written by a teenager who had been forced to write a book report on a book they hated. Sarcastic, snippy, and emphasis on all the wrong details.

Someone even wrote that everyone should come here to read their recap and a lot of folks clicked “like” to agree. Never again, never again, never again. This is where I belong on every Friday.

Thank you. Your writing is great and much appreciated.

    • RozB says:

This is where the best Scandal Recap resides. Between what Luvvie writes and the GIFs she uses to emphasize everything, you will get your life. You should make sure you read the whole Scandal recap series – you will feel like you did a marathon abs workout!

BTW – she does a podcast called The Ratchet and the Geek w/ this dude named Scott that will have you laughing so hard!

  38. lovedbyverdie says:

Question… How are you gonna cuss me out, then propose to me without a ring?

  39. Pamap02 says:

Love your recaps. One question. I think I have figured out whys call Fitz President Ghost. But why do u call Edison Senator Pudding Pop? Is it that he reminds u of Bill Cosby or is it because he’s cold, dark, with a stick up his a$$, lol?

    • paintgurl40 says:

^^^snickers^^^ both!! i think cuz is face looks so brown and creamy..

did anyone notice when fitz asked sally when was she gonna get her shit out of his office?

  40. Nikki Bee (@nikkib1920) says:

President Ghost refers to Tony Goldwyn’s previous major role: he was the friend who had Patrick Swayze’s character killed in Ghost (and then was carried off by the shadow people)

    1. I hate Shonda Rhimes. Truly.
    2. Um, Liv READ Sen. Pudding Pop for straight FILTH! I LOVED every minute of it.
    3. The recaps. This was essential for us Popeheads (or nah?) because it really explained HOW the DC5 came about, but more importantly it explained why Olivia got involved. Made total sense. Shout out to her wall slide b/c I instantly thought of Luvvie when she did it!
    4. Cyrus’s shade/Sally’s facial expressions. Sally’s in the WH, attempting to act all Presidential, when ALL eyes focus on someone else. HILARITY! Her face totally cracked. BUT, THEN!! CHILE, did you see her screw face when Cyrus was like: Madame Vice President! And how are YOU today? I fell off the couch (ok, not really, I had my laptop going) but I was cackling with laughter. Cyrus is the master of shade. I love he.
    5. Fitz’ dad was an ass. I know it was Barry Bostwick, blah blah, but I REALLY did not like him. I don’t think Huck had anything to do with his death, I just think the man was mean and ornery and his heart gave out.
    6. We see OPA’s first assignment, but we STILL don’t know how these people got together. Shonda, can we get some back story? Please and thank you.
    7. I’m not here for drunk Fitz. Ever.
    8. I am here for Fitz in the first three minutes of this episode. WTF is it with those two and there sexual chemistry on screen?? My girlfriends and I were all saying, Um, I need a fan or a drank or . . WOW. I see why Shonda had to leave the set when they filmed b/c that mess was HAWT. *fans self*
    9. I am also here for angry Fitz. Dude gets angry and starts chopping wood? Seriously? And that was hawt also, as well? Then he got all emotional and cried into Liv’s bewbies. I aint even mad at her. At. All.
    10. WHY THE HELL DOES EDISON STILL HAVE KEYS TO OLIVIA’S APARTMENT?? After that first accusation, he’d be Out. OUT. I’on give a hot dayum that he’s third in line for POTUS, you just aint gonna be runnin up in my place like that. Then to have the gaul to call me a criminial, whore, idiot and a liar?? Chile, bye. BYE!! GIT!! BE GONE!!
    11. If you are new to Shonda’s shows, let me share this with you. Don’t miss the first OR last five minutes of her shows. The big things tend to happen at either or both of those time frames. As evidenced by this episode, because I’m sure we were all were like WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA? when it happened, then AGAIN during the phone call. I’ve been riding with Shonda for NINE seasons of Greys, all of Private Practice and now Scandal (I didnt bother with Off the Map). This is a trademark of her shows and every Thursday, I am usually screaming at the tv, throwing something (usually literally), wishing I had DVR so I could replay something, or all of the above. Usually all of that.
    12. TWO WEEKS???? *insert Liv’s wall slide here*

    • I never knew that’s why he was called President Ghost! I always thought it was because he became a ghost of himself whilst staring off thinking of Olivia. Cain’t make a decision, cain’t make a phone call, cain’t answer nobody’s questions, having her photographed with Pudding Pop, etc. But the reference to the movie totally makes sense!

Also: I am DONE with your word “bewbies”!!! hahahaha!!!

  41. Oh hell nawl 2 weeks?!!!WTF?! This episode was priceless seeing VP Ginger’s face when Sir POTUS walked in = PRICELESS!!

First of all Liv is a liar, whore, idiot and a criminal!! Don’t be mad because Puddin’ called you out on your shit!! Come on son!

How is my Puddin’ Pop gon’ ask Live to marry him with no ring?!!! #FAIL o__O he is scrumptious tho ain’t he?!! That man is finer than all out doors! Whooot sorry #Idris you know you my Boo!

You all pretty much voiced how a chic was feeling! Thursday night TV ain’t been this hot in a long time…like since Dynasty ok k k ?

    Hmmpf
