If the Boston Manhunt Had Happened on Scandal

You know I miss Scandal. Like the desert misses rain. Like Coolio misses hair. Like Cher misses youth. I MISS SCANDAL AND US GLADIATORS ARE SUFFERING. Anytime is too long for Scandal to be gone. 5 more days though, and we’ll be reunited. Until then, all I have are memories, old episodes and my own imagination.

So I was thinking. What would happen if this Boston manhunt had happened on Scandal? How would it go down? I’m glad you asked.

Scandal-Boston-Manhunt

The Call – Liv gets a call and it’s from the Boston Mayor. A bomb just went off at the annual Marathon, an international event. “We’ve had an explosion at the finish line of our Marathon. People are hurt and we need you.” Olivia says “I will be there in an hour.”

The Scene – Liv calls Edison (Senator Pudding Pop) and asks if he’s going to Boston. He is. Immediately. And she hitches a ride on one of the gubment’s private jet with Huck in tow. They get to Boston and are on the scene of the explosion. There’s blood and glass shards everywhere. Liv’s off-white trench betrays the scene, which is anything but clean.

Her and Huck hop to it, gathering info they can. Huck stands in the middle of the street looking around, when he notices a security camera inside the store window closest to the site. He tells Liv they need to get the tape. The store owners are shaken up but happy to help in any way. They give the two the tape out the camera.

Olivia talks to the mayor and says she needs updates as they get them and will not STOP until they find who the perpetrators were. Liv is gon HANDLE IT. She calls Harrison and says she’s headed back. He needs to gather info on everyone registered to run in the marathon. He says “I gotchu. I got this.”

Boston Marathon logo 2015

Digging for Dirt – Back at the Gladiator office, Harrison, Abby and Quinn are going through information about the registrants with the news playing in the background. They hear a CNN report saying that the suspects are “dark-skinned” and Harrison drops his papers to call them complete idiots. He changes the channel to MSNBC and throws the remote, adjusting his tie as he gets back to work.

What Do You Got? – Liv stomp walks in with Huck and puts a picture of the logo of the Boston Marathon on the glass wall. “The city of Boston, and possibly the entire country are our newest clients.” *camera snap sounds* “There are 3 dead and over 170 injured at this event. We need to find who did it.” Harrison talks all fast and tells them what they’ve found so far about the runners when Olivia says they have a security tape from a store near the finish line. Huck was already reviewing it.

Pressure Cooker, No Rice – Olivia gets a call from the Mayor. They’ve found what they think set off the bomb. They were pressure cooker bombs in backpacks found near the finish line. It looks like the job of 2 or more people.

She hangs up when Huck yells “I THINK I HAVE SOMETHING!” The gladiators circle around his computer and he slows the tape down and zooms in on it. “Look. These 2 guys in baseball caps and backpacks. I think it’s them.”

baseballcaps

Liv says “PRINT IT OUT! I’ll be back.” she grabs her coat and ends up in Cyrus’ office.

Baseball Caps – Cy’s busy getting the President Ghost ready for his speech to the country later that night and only has 5 minutes to chat. She shows him the picture of who the suspects might be and he says he’ll pass it on to the FBI. She says “nevermind. I will do it myself” and storms out.

Cyrus Petty Scandal 1

As she leaves the West Wing, President Ghost steps out his office and sees her leave. He turns to Cyrus who shrugs and says “She ok?” “She’s fine.” He turns and watches the door, like he is expecting her to storm back in. You know he misses his boothang.

Here They Are – Olivia gets to the director of the FBI’s office. As his secretary asks who she is, she walks in and drops the pictures on his desk. “Those are your guys. Let’s find them.” Director says he will have the images publicized. He’s due at the President’s press conference anyway.

When Liv gets back in the office, it’s in time for the press conference. She turns on the TV, watching President Ghost infuse hope in the people of Boston. He tells them and America that “we have the best people on the case and we will not stop until we bring the perpetrators to justice.” He pauses and stares directly into the camera. Olivia rubs her neck and looks down. MMHMM he’s talmbout YOU, girl.

The next day, Liv is back in the gladiator office and Huck has been running the faces of the baseball cap dudes through a database to see if there’s a possible match. Nothing so far. She says “keep looking.” Quinn is helping Huck. Harrison and Abby are in Boston, asking around to see if the faces look familiar. It was clearly gonna be a long day or week for the Gladiators.

Blocked from Boston – Liv finally gets home late at night and is on the couch enjoying some wine when she falls asleep. What wakes her up is a phonecall from the chief of staff of the Mayor of Boston. “We’re in a war zone. There’s a shootout happening and we think they’re our marathon suspects.” Liv jumps up and says “I’m on my way. Keep me updated.” She changes into a white long-sleeve with cream slacks. As she does, Cyrus calls her. “What? Headed to Boston.” Cyrus says “No you are not. Not right now. That’s the President’s orders.” “WHAT?!? He cannot order me to stay in Washington. I am on this case and need to be there.” “All flights to Boston are grounded right now.” “HOW DARE HE?!?” “Liv, there’s no reason you need to be there at this moment. Be safe.” Liv deep sighs and Cyrus interrupts her eyeroll with a low “He really loves you.” She hangs up.

Olivia calls Huck and asks if he has any information on baseball cap 1 & 2? Huck says he’s close to having something.

Cranky Leader – Back at the White House, President Ghost is talking to Cyrus. “What the hell is going on in Boston?” He’s pissed. And cranky because he’s barely gotten 3 hours of sleep all week. Plus he’s on the couch since Mellie is well, Mellie.

204fitznavy

His hair is nicely disheveled and he’s rocking his “Navy” tee. His superman curl is laying on his forehead. He sits, puts his head in his hands and then looks up. “You talked to Liv?” “Yeah.” “She’s not going, right?” “Nope.”

Boston Gladiators – Liv logs on to Twitter and sees the info of the police scanner. She tunes in but keeps her eyes on her timeline. She calls Harrison and Abby to ask if they’re safe. Harrison picks up and she can hear sirens. In hushed tones, Harrison says they’re fine. They’re laying on the ground and it’s clearly chaos. Abby is next to him and says “Shit. I was supposed to call David back.” Liv tells them to check in with her to make sure they’re ok.

Insider Gladiator – Olivia Pope is pacing around her living room as she listens to the police scanner. One cop was killed in the first shootout. And supposedly, one of the suspects was also killed. She can’t confirm it. There’s a lot of conflicting information. She wants to call the Boston PD but their hands are full so she figured sitting tight on this was best. Around an hour later, she gets a call from Boston’s mayor. “You were right. It was the guys in the baseball caps. We need your help to positively identify them.” Liv calls Huck, who is always listening to scanner. “The one in the dark cap and sunglasses used to be a boxer. Found pics from a competition in Salt Lake City. He was the one that was just killed in that shootout. They’re brothers. The other one, is 19. Their names are Tamerlan and Dzhokhar.”

HELL YEAH, HUCK! Always coming through.

Liv says she wants information on every one of their family members. “Who are their friends? Who do they grab coffee with? I NEED TO KNOW! See you at the office in 15.”

She calls one of her BPD guys and tells her what info they’ve found out. He says one is definitely dead and the other is on the run. She asks if she’s needed and he tells her “No. We’re on lockdown.” She hangs up, grabs her coat and leaves. When she gets to the Gladiator office, she realizes Huck never left. Them Gladiators ROAR 24/7!

Olivia Huck Scandal

Family Business – The city of Boston is on lockdown as they continue the search for baseball cap #2. Huck and Liv are at the office and he’s dug up info on the guys’ uncle, aunt and sister. Their father isn’t in the U.S. and they’re from Chechnya but have been here since they were young. She calls Uncle Ruslan and he basically has no dambs to give. And he doesn’t support this behavior. GO IN AND LET HAVE! He’s clearly the family member who tells you to go pick your own switch off the tree so he can beat you with it. Every family has at least one.

Locked Down and Losing It – Harrison and Abby are getting on each other’s nerves now. It’s been over 12 hours since the lockdown started and staring at 4 walls and each other was driving them crazy. There’s a knock at the door and it’s a couple of members of the Boston PD and some SWAT team folks. “You’re with Olivia Pope and Associates?” “Yes.” “Come with us.” HABBY looks at one another and follow. They get taken to the command center of this manhunt. Turns out, Liv placed a call. The Gladiators were on the scene! “She’ll be here in 30 minutes.”

GAHTDAMB! How did Liv pull that? Wasn’t the city on lockdown? Yes. Yes it was. But she’s Olivia Carolyn Pope. She got people.

Gladiators on the Scene – Olivia shows up with Huck and Quinn to the command center.

Olivia_Pope_2

“What do we have?” And the Boston PD tells her they’re doing door-to-door searches of homes. The city is a ghost town, since everyone has been told to stay indoors. Huck says he wants to go on the searches and ain’t nobody gon say no to him so he is placed in gear. Harrison was trying to look at some footage on a computer when one of the officers says “Hey buddy. Back up.” Harrison turns to him and says *in his really fast talk*:

“First of all, don’t let the gingham and suit fool you. I am not your BUDDY and I am not here to play. I suggest you watch your tone and govern yourself better. I am here to work. I am here to find this suspect. Just as you are. I might not have a badge but I’m a gladiator. IN A SUIT. So that attitude? SHUT IT DOWN. Now excuse me.”

And then he goes back to watching footage. WELP! TOLD HIM!

Olivia briefs the team on the suspects’ lives, what they liked, didn’t like, whether they dated, family, all that. She shows them pictures they took with friends.

A call comes in. It’s a woman saying there’s blood on the boat in her backyard. The command center goes into a frenzy of activity. Liv says “Send Huck. Make sure Huck is there.”

Boat Standoff – Helicopters are flying over the house. Media starts reporting that there may or may not be the suspect in the boat and he may or may not be dead. The team doesn’t want to move on it or shoot through it because since it is behind someone’s house. They don’t know what is in the boat. After two hours, they decide to go on that boat and get whoever is in it.

Huck pinned him down, frisked him right quick and other officers had guns drawn. THEY GOT HIM! THEY GOT THE SUMMABEESH! As they cuffed him, David Rosen starts to read him his Miranda rights. He only finishes the “You have” part when Senator Pudding Pop says “No. We’re taking the Public Safety Exception here. He gets no Miranda.” And David is all “But…” and Edison is all “No.” They place baseball cap 2 in custody. As he is dragged past, Huck whispers “You like water?” SHADDDDEEE!!! Huck has been there. YOU GON GET IT.

The people present cheer. The Boston PD really did an amazing job. With the help of the Gladiators.

Gratitude and Hope for Boston – The Gladiators head back to DC in time for the President’s address to the country and especially the people of Boston. He thanks them for their courage that week, and says justice prevailed. They got him. They can be free again. As he speaks, he looks to the side and sees Olivia standing there. He thanks law enforcement for their work, and the “other people who were instrumental in the capture of this enemy of the state.”

Popus 1 scandal gif

Liv tries to look on without emotion but the quivering lips and sad eyes betray her. She looks away and down at her feet.

They Were Up in the CLOSET – When President Ghost gets off the podium, he walks into the hallway and is thanking the members of the Boston PD who are present. They walk off and it’s just him, Cyrus and Olivia left. Cyrus looks at both of them, staring at each other like pitiful cats and he excuses himself. Left in an empty hallway, Olitz can’t take their eyes off each other. Fitz grabs her hand and pulls her into a nearby closet. Where they proceed to have hot monkey secks for 3 good minutes.

Closet 2 Scandal

They both walk out the closet looking slightly less put together than they did when they fell in it. Ghostie turns and says “You ruined me. But saved America. Thank you. And I hate you. But I love you.” Liv: *mouth quivers*

The end.

Until the next episode… And remember. If Olivia Pope is on the case,

ITsHandledOliviaPope

It’s handled!

You’re welcome, Gladiators!

This is what happens when Shonda and her team leaves us with no supervision. You can check out my other Scandal recaps. But really, I’m so glad the people of Boston can sleep a little bit more soundly. They deserve a drink and all the ice cream they want.

You think it woulda went down like this too?

P.S. Please share this post with fellow Scandal fans, if you liked it. Please and thanks. 🙂

Edit: Some people think my post is in “poor taste and too soon.” I didn’t write it with any malice intent and my heart goes to all of Boston. Writing this post helped ME deal with what happened. It wasn’t to cheapen the events but to find some light after the tragedy. I understand some will disagree with my decision but I stand by it. Again, <3 to anyone affected by the tragedy.

This has helped me through my withdrawal symptoms. I imagined this whole story in my head down to every detail (Olivia’s cream pants are St. John, and she is wearing black pointed toe Prada pumps…and Harrison’s suit is light gray with a blue gingham shirt and navy tie).

Thanks Luvvie. I can now make it through the next 5 days.

    April 19, 2013 at 11:58 pm

To really make it “scandalous”, I would imagine that the episode starts off with the younger bomber running into Pope & Associates screaming that he’s innocent and the police killed his brother. And they would take him on as a client, trying to figure out who is trying to frame him and his brother. But the catch would that they actually are not innocent, and the younger brother killed the older brother on purpose. After all of this work the Gladiators did for them in trying to clear their name, they are pissed and want justice served! They devise a plan to trap the younger one for the FBI/CIA/Boston Police to catch so that President Ghost and the Mayor of Boston can get all of the glory for capturing the bombers.

Harrison’s monologue? Right on the money.

“You like water?” I’m done with that one.

What’s really amazing about this recap is we were all thinking about Olivia Pope, the Gladiators and Scandal this week. My dad even commented to me that Pope and Associates should be on the job.

There is no doubt…we love Scandal.

This just gave me a piece of my Scandal life back. I would add a part where Abby and David sneak off to have hate sex and then he blames her for breaking his heart and ruining his life. And with it being Scandal you know the bombers would be kin to an ambassador or something to cause conflict.

Yup, yup…true dat – to all of this.

But see, what you missed was the last 3 minutes of the show where we get a screen shot of a fairly empty bar. Cut to a close up of 2 strangers near the juke box. Black guy bends to tie his shoes and whispers to the patron nearby, “Did you handle her?”

The patron sips his beer and replies, “Im keeping her busy, she won’t be in our hair.”

First stranger stands and adjusts his tie, “This better not be another problem. I don’t want her snooping around anymore.”

Beer guzzler tosses bills into table to pay for his beverage and rises to leave, “Olivia Pope has her hands full. Don’t worry, I’ll keep her out of town for a while until things cool off.”

Senator Whitley’s Byron and Jake give a barely noticeable nod and part, heading separate ways. The next day, a suspicious factory explosion covers the news and The Gladiators are tasked once again with saving the world.

    Fin.

Yup, yup, yup…true dat – to all of that.

But see, what you had missed was: In the last 3 minutes of the show, the scene changes to a fairly empty bar on the outskirts of DC. A patron gets up to leave and as he does so, bends to tie his shoe near the table of a lone drinker. “Did you take care of her,” he whispers fiercely?

The man sitting doesn’t turn his head from the window, “She’s taken care of.”

The first stranger stands and adjusts his tie, “If Olivia Pope remains a problem, there are others who know how to handle things.”

A shadow crosses his face as the drinker sips his beer stoically, “She’s no longer an issue. I’m keeping her out of town for a while until things cool down. She’ll be busy for quite a while.”

“Make sure of it,” Senator Whitley’s Byron spits, “or I will.”

Jake, with barely a nod, tosses bills onto the table to cover his tab and leaves heading another direction.

The next day, national news is covered by a suspicious factory explosion in the Southwest. Olivia Pope & the gladiators are tasked, once again, with saving the country from a menacing threat…all the while not knowing what’s right behind them is what’s most dangerous of all.

This was in poor taste. The bombings were a real event and people lost their lives. Do better.

    • April 21, 2013 at 1:18 pm

      Sorry you feel that way.

I have to agree that this was in poor taste. As a fan of your blog and “Scandal,” I get what you were trying to accomplish. Yet, I feel this further shows how much we have become desensitized to some of the cruel ways of the world, that we would feel it was fine to do something like this. The Boston Marathon tragedy was real life, not some tv show. With all due respect, I feel that had this been your home or one of your relatives or close friends had lost their life, you would not have done this write up.

      • April 21, 2013 at 3:59 pm

I was not desensitized to the tragedy and terrible events of the week. If you read any of my tweets and posts before then you’d know that. My goal in writing this wasn’t to make light of the events but to find some light in it. And I didn’t handle this lightly.

        I stand by this post.

Law & Order does this on a weekly basis; pulls from real events and makes a show. I don’t think she meant any disrespect by it. It was actually well-written and I don’t even watch the show.

It was a very difficult week. I felt that this post only adapted the subsequent manhunt to a tv show that is very popular. Tv shows adapt real life stories to actual episodes all the time. And it’s not just limited to Law and Order.

I would hope that the folks commenting that this post was in poor taste would direct their disgust to the numerous media outlets that constantly reported false information throughout. Please make sure you contact the editors In chief and news producers.

    Luvvie,

I was glued to the TV all week, looking for updates and feeling quite helpless. Several times, I wondered how OPA would handle it. I thank you for giving my thoughts direction.

I am not sure how I would feel if I were directly affected, but I dont think you were disrespectful or glorifying the terror at all. You were addressing the aftermath. You did not cast the brothers prominently or glorify them.

I enjoyed your pre-cap…tho, instead of a closet scene, it would have been cool had Liv told Fitz to kiss her behind…trying to order her not to go somewhere…he needs to go back to the couch, nap and sober up!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. […] Awesomely Luuvie wrote this Scandal Boston Manhut script like a TRUE SCANDAL […]

OMG this was great! Can’t wait till Thursday, drinking my red wine, Olivia Pope style!

Ms. Luvvie, I believe I’ve seen your many fabulous comments on VSB. This right here? Gave.Me.Life. I wasn’t sure if it was “too soon” but considering they found the 2nd suspect, I think we can at least look forward to justice.

Great post; Harrison’s fast talk, hot monkey secks for 3 good minutes and the lip quiver? Miss Thang, you kilt me. At work no less. Awesome post and yes I think you should do this for the summer when we are all going through Scandal withdrawal..

This was in horrible taste. And I’m a fan of Scandal and you, Luvvie. People died. An 8-year-old child died. A man’s legs were blown off. Just wow.

    • April 22, 2013 at 11:03 pm

You have your opinion about it and I certainly have mine. I’ve said what I needed to about it and how there was no malice behind it. Sorry you felt like this.

      • April 23, 2013 at 5:50 pm

Luvvie your post gave me life!!! I am nervous wreck about the new episode on thursday and this post soothed my glass shattered nerves!!! If Olivia does not forgive Fitz Imma have a heart attack!!!! I did not think the post was in poor taste Dana needs to get a grip Law and Order uses story lines ripped from the the headlines all the time…. It is a very sad and tragic time but we can’t stay sad and defeated that is what the terrorist want and this post used true life events and helped people deal with it is a different way….. mad props to you gurl!!!

Girl! I loved this! You would be a wonderful asset to the writing team for this show. A true Gladiator, you have studied the little nuance about every character that makes us love watching. You need to get paid for this right here!

Luvvie… your post helped *me* to deal with Boston! You are wonderful.

After reading all your Scandal recaps, I broke down and bought all of season 2 on iTunes. Costly, but I could not resist. Looking forward to tomorrow’s post.
