LA, Johannesburg, DC, NYC and More: My Fall Travel Schedule

Although we technically still have 3 weeks before we bid summer adieu, Labor Day has come and go so schedule-wise, we’re already in Fall. I am always sad to see my favorite season of the year go but these next 3 months should be exciting for me. I gotta tell you what I’m up to and where I’ll be traveling.

Luvvie Fall 2014 Travel

Los Angeles – September 4-8

I’m headed to LA for Ankara Fest LA, an annual fashion show that showcases ankara print fashion and clothes by African designers. This year, a percent of proceeds is being donated to my nonprofit organization The Red Pump Project. AnkaraFest is happening on Saturday, September 6 from 4-8pm. You can get tickets here.

On Friday (September 5), I’m hosting Access Africa: A Media and Fashion Mixer with Miss Dunnie O and Telena Cassell from 6-9pm.

South Africa – September 18-24

Social Media Week is happening September 22-26 in 11 cities around the world. For the first time, it will be in South Africa (Johannesburg). So, I’m gonna get there a bit early to explore Cape Town and then head to Jozi. There, I’m teaching a Blogging Masterclass on September 21. And then I’m moderating a panel called Entrepreneurship in the Digital Age the next day.

This will be my first time in South Africa so I’m super excited for that. I’ve heard such great things about the people, the food, the sights. I plan on being super touristy. I think there’s also a meetup being planned for me. Details to come. If you’re in South Africa, shoot me an email so I can send you info if there does end up being a meetup.

Also, you can register for my SMW class and panel for the free. Check out the Social Media Week Johannesburg site to do that.

New York – September 25-28

I land back in New York in time for the Scandal season 4 premiere. An announcement to come on what I’m doing for that.

New York – October 2-5

5 days after leaving, I will be right back in NYC because I am on the advisory board for the FOCUS100 conference. It is one of my favorite conferences because it is the only TECH (not blogging) conference that is for Black women. FOCUS brings together women with startups with experts and VCs (venture capitalists) for 2 days of learning, pitching and connecting. This is the 3rd year and I’ve been going since the first one.

If you’re starting a tech company or thinking about it this is the room to be in. Honestly, if you’re a Black woman who wants to connect with some other dope business women, you should be there. Register for FOCUS here. Using that link there or the code “luvvie” gets you a day pass for $99.

Luvvie Issa Rae FOCUS 2013

Me interviewing Issa Rae at FOCUS 2013. We spent the whole time cracking up.

I’m excited to be on the advisory board for the conference too.

After all this, I chill for a couple of weeks.

Washington DC – Oct 22-25

I’m going to DC to be a part of the ONE Campaign’s AYA Summit. Looking forward to building with amazing women dedicated to seeing women and girls from all over the world prosper.

San Antonio – November 5-8

The 6th annual Blogalicious Conference is happening in San Antonio and I’ll be in the building! I was there last year and that’s actually where I hosted the Comcast Scandal watch party. I was also on the AllStar Blogger keynote panel. The conference brings together multicultural women who are bloggers and want to step their cookies up to the next level.

Charlotte – December 6-7

The Red Pump Project’s 6th annual Red Pump/Red Tie Affair is on December 6 in Charlotte. This will be a 24-hour trip because I get to Charlotte the day of our event and bounce out the next morning. I love what my ambassadors do in that city and this is one of our signature events.

Accra – December 13-22

My friend Cherae Robinson of Rare Customs, a travel experience agency, is putting together a Tastemakers Tour to Accra, Ghana. I’ve never been to Ghana and that is a shame so I cannot miss this trip. We will be exploring Accra for 8 days.

And then, I am doing the holidays in Houston, TX

Whew. I might do meetups in certain cities I’m in. I will announce those on my Instagram and Facebook fan page so follow me there for updates. If you’re wondering why I’m not coming to your city, it’s because I don’t have business there. Get me a speaking/hosting/conference gig and I’M THERE! For serious.

Also, I’m already booking for 2015 so get me to your city/town/country and we can have good times. I speak about all things comedy, activism and technology. Check out my portfolio site to see how we can work together.

WHOOT! See y’all around the way!
