So I Met Sir Elton John Yesterday and OMG OMG OMG

I’ve been kinda MIA from these parts lately but those who follow me on social media know what I’ve been up to. I know everyone isn’t on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram but when I’m quiet here, check there to see what I’m up to.

ANYWHO, yesterday was glorious! I met Sir Elton John and I am still catching vapors at random intervals and squealing like a fool! If y’all need me for the next day, I’ll be somewhere not being able to be told SHIT because life royalty just touched me.

Motherfuckers Tell Me Nothing nicki minaj gif

So I was a guest of the ONE Campaign to come to a reception they were hosting with the Elton John AIDS Foundation on the Capitol in DC. My work as Executive Director/Co-Founder of The Red Pump Project was relevant to what was happening, and I was told Elton himself would be there. He’s in town to testify in front of Congress this week, about the importance of continuing to support the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The reception was invite only, and there were only like 75 people there. When Sir Elton walked in, I was like SQUEEE. I was standing by John McCain (who seemed bored and may have even said he was to the person standing next to him). Elton gets up on the podium and talks about why HIV/AIDS is still ravaging millions, dropping global stats and making me swoon in both admiration and awe of his real commitment. You know how I feel about celebs using their platforms for good. He’s a longtime philanthropist and his work in HIV/AIDS advocacy is legendary.

He kept his remarks short, though. When he stepped off the podium, I walked up to him and said “Hey, I’m Luvvie” and I went to shake his hand but he pulled me in for a double cheek kiss. CHILE WUT? I DIE.

Elton John Meet

Then I told him “I run a nonprofit organization called The Red Pump Project. We raise awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls and we use red shoes” (I had on some killer ones). This is when he pulled me into a huge hug. I LIVE! He stepped back and touched my face and said “we need to work together.” YES WE DO, SIR ELTON JOHN. IT IS CLAIMED. IT IS DONE. I am TOTALLY imagining a Red Pump Project x Elton John AIDS Foundation partnership, and it has been on our list since we started Red Pump! I would love for him to put on some red shoes for our next #RocktheRedPump campaign.

He smelled amazing, by the way. Like your favorite sweet candy and floral tones and like all the money you’ll never make. Also, of note, the dude gives GREAT hugs! His hug felt like awesome and peace. I’ve met celebs who sometimes look past you even as they speak to you. Sir Elton John looks into your eyes so you know he’s paying attention. He even grabbed my hand as I spoke to him. He exudes warmth.

Luvvie and Sir Elton John

We go together now.

Thank you so much to the ONE Campaign for having me and for making sure that I meet one of my favorite icons of all time.

Can I Go By Dame Luvvie Now Since I Met Sir Elton John? I’m asking. For a friend. And everyone.

AAAHHHHH!!! What is my life? I have been in some rooms that I never even DREAMED about so I can’t even say “dream come true.” Basically, I’m Forrest Gump. God is good ALLATAHM!

Press play ▶Yeah. I’m Forrest Gump. Reflecting on today.

I love that you pointed out his true philanthropy. To many celebs do it to be seen. His actions are honest and true because we all know he does it but it’s with grace and dignity.

What an honor for you both. You know Sir Elton will wear his red kicks too.

This is so amazing! “we need to work together” Not that you need validation for your fantastic work, but wow…how exciting.

It’s so great when celebrities are as awesome in person as you’d hoped they would be.

    (I know I am late)

Mother of Gawd! That seemed like a dream encounter all right! Way to go, Luvvie! Sir Elton John has given this rotting world more than he is generally credited for. Other than his musical compositions alone, among which there are diamonds and pearls (I do love me some ole Elton, and his latest album is also fine indeed), he has been giving and WORKING to help people in such a disinterested way…
And Luvvie, you do deserve the association, as well as all those people out there doing lots for commendable causes. Congratulations!
