My Life

Watch Our First Live Recording of Ratchet and the Geek from Portland

Hey folks! I’ve been in Portland, Oregon all week because I was invited to speak at the NeighborWorks Symposium. I presented on “Creating Great Content for Social Media: A Strategy Workshop. Had a great time giving this workshop.

Anywho, my friend and podcast co-host Scott Hanselman lives in Portland so I went over to his crib and had dinner with his awesome family. Scott cooked us some chicken curry with brown rice. Chef Shansel was in the house.

No, we did not plan to match. Scott just be tryna be like me sometimes. HA!

We used the opportunity to record a new episode of our Ratchet and the Geek podcast, which we started October 2012 and cover all things pop culture, TV and technology. We planned on doing it every two weeks but our schedules get crazy and *I* suck with consistency so… yeah. The last episode we recorded was a month ago. We were long overdue for a new one.

So yesterday, not only did we record the audio for the show, we actually streamed video of it live on YouTube for folks to watch. We did it late (around 8pm PT, which is 11pm EST) so we didn’t expect a lotta people to tune in. We were surprised though that people did, and we don’t know the exact number of those who did yet but there are 37 comments on the video.

Check us out below as we do the most random (and the longest) version of our podcast yet. Usually, each episode is 30-40 minutes long and this one is an hour. We talk about Kim Kardashian and her drapery dress, Brandy, my love of Clear internet, our big foreheads and other truly random stuff. Watch it below.

P.S. The first 10 minutes of the vid are me and Scott tryna figure out buttons and keyboard and stuff.

The audio version will be posted on the RatchetandtheGeek.com website sometime today, and if you like our podcast, feel free to subscribe to us on iTunes!

So what did y’all think of our live show? Want us to do it more often?

I loved the show! I definitely would like to see a video version of “Ratchet and the Geek”. You can even use software to record both sides of the Skype video call when you can’t be in Portland (or Scott can’t be in Chicago).

I love this episode, and I’m barely half-way through! I’m over here cracking up! You and Shanselman together is pure gold!

P.S. Luvvie, your skin is giving me Nigerian goddess glow, and I don’t know what brand of magical vampire blood you’re drinking or using in your facials, but I won’t tell if you share. Skin just glowing. O.O

That was another hour of my life I will NEVER get back!
You guys crack me up. You hit the nail on the head there, Scott IS weird. It is very rare for Scott to go after someone so I never expected the the Brandy massacre but how could he not comment on the WIDEST mouth in showbiz? Seriously, Brandy is like a cross between a hyena and that cat in the Alice in Wonderland cartoon!
    Thanks for another great episode.

Ps. I notice that you are the ONLY ONE who sticks to the schedule/program. That is awesome. It is often that conversations wander off and “loose the thread” so it is a good skill/habit to have when you can segue BACK on topic. WELL DONE.

Its great seeing you guys. You guys are too hilarious. You two throw too much shade together. The Team of Shade is what I shall call you guys. LOL

Oh one thing Luvvie, the next time you two do a recording in person, can you keep your mouth next to the mic as much as possible like Scott was doing. It was hard to hear on the regular podcast when I was just listening to it.

  6. […] to watch on YouTube was when I was in Portland in May and it was so fun. You can view that episode here. This time, we were able to get a room at Columbia College’s media […]
