My Hunt for Swiss Miss French Vanilla Hot Chocolate
When it comes to edible stuff, I have an obsessive thing where I love something a lot for a while and indulge in it ALL THE TIME. There was the time I ate Corn Pops every night before bed for a month. And then I’d wake up and eat a bagel with strawberry cream cheese. Or that time when S’mores Pop Tarts were my drug of choice. And yall already know I eat rice everyday (yes, really) and my addiction to all things red velvet should be in the DSM-IV.
I’m a picky eater and I like what I like! Don’t judge me!
Every winter, I become obsessed with hot chocolate and drink some every night. My hands down favorite is Swiss Miss French Vanilla. It is everything and everything is it. I love vanilla flavored stuff and it’s so good that I don’t even have to use milk or creamer if I don’t feel like it. I love coming home after a long cold day and putting on my fleece pajamas, sitting on the couch and sipping on my french vanilla hot cocoa. It tastes like goodness and Granny’s hugs.
Naturally, I am ready to start my ritual because it’s colder than a witch’s heart already so I checked my favorite grocery store in Chicago like usual and I didn’t see it on multiple trips there. So I go online to just make it easier on myself and order it and… IT WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!!! And then I found out that:
SWISS MISS FRENCH VANILLA HOT COCOA HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED! WAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! *cries in my tea*
But I felt like hope wasn’t lost. Surely, there would still be stores selling it. SURELY. And then I Googled some more and by page 5 of results, every store had put “unavailable.” My heart sunk and I bit my fist bitterly. And then A-HA! I found ONE grocery delivery service that had them. I fist-pumped because I hadn’t given up. I put 5 boxes in the cart and created an account. As I went to checkout, they asked for my address. However, my spirit was dropkicked when they said they don’t deliver to me. They only deliver to a few zip codes in Michigan.

Why do companies discontinue such deliciousness?? Who told Swiss Miss it was ok for them to stop making french vanilla? NO FAIR! Meanwhile, they still make that raggelly marshmallow hot cocoa. Blech! I’m not here for that. (-_-) UGH!
WHAT AM I GON DO NOW FOR HOT CHOCOLATE DELICIOUSNESS? I mean, yes I could get regular but I don’t wanna. BOOOOO!
So everyone has been put on notice. If you EVER see Swiss Miss French Vanilla in a store, buy me ALL the boxes. I mean it. Every box. For real. I’m not playing. Email me and I’ll send you payment for them. This is not a game.
But for real, Swiss Miss. Bring back French Vanilla for us. There’s even a dedicated Facebook fan page for this. We mean business. No justice, no hot chocolate! Please and thanks.
Anyone else love this french vanilla goodness? Annnndddd more importantly, have you seen it anywhere lately? Keep in mind that sometimes, the box isn’t brown, but the color of regular Swiss Miss products.

P.S. A couple of people have reached out to me that I can get the hot cocoa delivered to them in Michigan and they’ll send to me. You are awesomesauce. I’ma call the place tomorrow to verify that they REALLY got ’em and it ain’t them playing with my emotions. I’m clearly outchea parched. Edit to the P.S.: They don’t have them for real. I bugged them via Facebook. I haz the sads.
P.P.S. I’m so greedy. No, I still haven’t had red velvet fried chicken. I’m slightly salty about it too.

Have you ever tried the Land O’ Lakes hot chocolate? They have a white chocolate flavor, french vanilla, chocolate mint, dark chocolate rasberry…it is the best. Super creamy and delicious. You’ll forget all about swiss miss with their ol’ watery discontinued ass flavors.

Seems great! You could also try to add a little Frecnch vanilla creamer to the hot chocolate. I do when I can’t get to Starbucks and need something fake fancy at work or when I am at WaWa..lol

Yes you must! That dark chocolate raspberry made me hug myself it was so dang good. They come in pouches so you can get a variety, and see which ones you like the most. Dang now I want some!
And they’re only like .50 a pouch, and the pouches are a pretty generous size. I stock up every winter!

Land O’Lakes hot chocolate is phenom. I like to add French Vanilla whipped cream to add to the dreaminess, however, it does not need it.

I am standing in Target’s Christmas section at this exact moment and they have it in a holiday variety pack and in little individual packs!!!
I’ve had land o’lakes french vanilla hot cocoa, because I too love swiss miss french vanilla hot cocoa and it’s blech. I didn’t like it. You might luvvie, but I found it highly lacking and really a disappointing replacement. I did find a holiday tin with swiss miss FV hot cocoa inside…yes, I paid $5 for 6 packets…but I don’t care! It’s yummy and so worth it! 🙂
Their french vanilla is absolutely awful! Its like drinking a stick of chocolate butter!
this is how i still feel over 20 years after Kelloggs discontinued my FROSTED Apple pop tarts… i’m not here for that unfrosted apple cinnamon ish they called themselves ‘replacing’ it with… you know my disgruntled 11 year old self wrote them a complaint letter and asked for it to come back… still waiting. still salty. -___-

I thought they were playing a joke with my freshman feelings when I went to happening spot aka Wal-Mart, and I didn’t see anymore of those little balls of happiness(giggle). My only replacement are the Utz cheese balls, and they’re still not the same. Dangit the feelings are coming back.

This is how I felt when they discontinued Post Cinna cluster raisin bran. Like some idiots really had a meeting and collectively agreed to discontinue my source of happiness? I was so angry that I refused to buy any Post product for almost a year.
I did find a box at an Aldies in Detroit for the holidays and bought one. Then my ass forgot it and had my friend mail it to me. Lmao…she thought I was crazy to have her actually mail a box of cereal.
Ahh mehnnn!!! now I am hurt all over again. I need to start a change.org petition.
I have had my heart broken by the discontinuation of Crispy M&Ms, 3D Doritos, ButterFinger BBs, and KFC Popcorn chicken. When Mars stopped producing the Starburst Fruit Twists, tho….. I was inconsolable. I didn’t eat fruit-flavored candy for months. They were sooooooo good. I used to buy 4 packs at a time to make sure I didn’t run out until my next re-up. The Twizzlers Rainbow Twists were a trashy, nasty attempt at recreating those delightful, greasy strips of flavored sugar overload, and an insult to humanity.

This may not be the exact same, but I LOOOVE regular swiss miss hot chocolate with a splash of french vanilla coffee creamer…or also vanilla caramel and sprinkle some marshmallow minis or some whipped cream. One of my winter morning favorites hands down.
Why can’t you add vanilla extract or creamer to regular hot chocolate?
i sooooo feel you on this post. i will eat a food every single day until one day i just switch. right now i feel like my life can’t move forward unless i have tater tots for dinner *do not judge* :-). mini almond joys are my sweet tooth thing right now. get rid of that dreadful almond (i don’t care for the dark chocolate of mounds)and enjoy the heaven of milk chocolate and coconut….oh my lawd!
Chile…. I love me some hot chocolate but I cannot do those packs! Witnessed a horrible experience that I refuse to re-live. Note to all yall out there…. MAKE SURE THOSE PACKS HAVE NOT EXPIRED & examine before consuming.

As a kid I remember we tried to ignore Father Time giving us the heads up on a pack of hot chocolate ONCE. I have never seen my grandma move so fast. By the time my sister & I realized what was taking place, grandma had peaced us out & was stomping phantom maggots deep in the backyard. Grandma can shoot the label off a fly’s Calvin Klein’s but worms are her kryptonite.
This whole thread made me gag. Thank God I don’t like hot chocolate.

Luvvie, if they have Ghirardelli chocolate products out in your neck of the woods, look for their hot chocolate. You just wanna swim in it. It’s so decadent and lovely.

I just realized I received a box of the Swiss Miss French Vanilla in a gift/ combo pack last Christmas that was never opened (shame on me) You may be able to find some of those since it’s the holidays.
I too LOVE this product! I’ve been on the hunt myself and didn’t know it was discontinued!!!! I’m OCD and am going into panic mode!! I’ve tried the land o’lakes brand and I’m sad to say, it’s no swiss miss! I have a pouch in the kitchen and just haven’t been able to make myself drink it…was holding out for swiss miss. They still make that nasty dark chocolate one so why did they discontinue the french vanilla…you can’t convince me that it didn’t sell. The grocery stayed sold out and I would buy boxes when I found it on the shelf. I live in VA and if anyone knows where I could find a box hidden way in the back somewhere please let me know!!!

Love swiss miss french vanilla hot chocolate. Tried to find them everywhere .. tried every brand out there none compares. Today just found them at target in their christmas section. Decent price too. I know amazon and ebay sells them but pricey and this is close by so stock up. Exp 6/16.
I completely sympathize with you! I have been searching the Internet in vain trying to locate (decently priced) remaining boxes after hearing it was discontinued. Amazon has a couple gift tin sets but the price is a little steep considering I only want the French Vanilla. I have half a box left squirreled away in my cupboards, but I have pretty much given up hot chocolate since I cannot find it anymore.

I will definitely look out for this hot chocolate for you. I know how you fee. I’m a tea drinker and a few years ago Lipton discontinued my favorite Orange Spice black tea. I just wish they’d give you a warning so you could stock up, but no it’s always a surprise.

one tiny thread of happiness is that i saw it in the Christmas section at Walmart recently, sold in a small tin of only 5 or 6 packages for the ridiculous price of $5. when i drink 2 at a time, that’s gonna cost me a bank robbery!

I have some packages of the french vanilla left over from last christmas. They came in a big gift set and I didnt like that flavor. I would be happy to send them your way, seriously- I hate wasting food. I stumbled here because I was looking up how long hot cocoa lasts, and looks like they will still be perfectly fine to drink.

Luvvie, hit up Kmart’s Christmas gift set section…they have the multi pack (with caramel cream, french vanilla, double fudge, etc) and they have the single flavor tins.

My uncle works for swissmiss so we can buy or get free cocoa you can’t buy(and he’s not allowed to sell, but can give away) in the states.
When we were kids he used to bring us huge cans of the mini marshmallows. it was heaven xD

My mother-in-law usually finds it for me, but no such luck this year. I had one coveted box left over from last year and almost finished it. Life in my house is fixin to get cray cray. I need my French vanilla.
The Land-O-Lakes version of the Swiss Miss French Vanilla is absolutely disgusting. There is no comparison in taste WHATSOEVER. I, like the creator of this post, have been searching every Food Lion, Wal-mart, Target, and local grocery to find my winter addiction. I figured it was discontinued, but I was praying for a miracle. This post has finally given me the truth, I’ve been obsessed with finding it all winter and have even began to look on ebay and amazon for it (Terrible right?). I guess I can stop now, but they definitely need to bring it back, because I need my fix. I even drink it throughout the summer!
This makes me sad, because though French Vanilla is NOT the flavor I am pining for that is no longer with us (I am craving Caramel Cream and there is just no substitute…)……I wish I had realized it was discontinued when I went on a Hot Chocolate Binge on Christmas Break and finished all 3 of my boxes 🙁

Check your email, girl! I sent you a message a couple night ago. I found some Swiss Miss French Vanilla!!!!! And I bought a case of it!!!!
OMG! They have it at Bed Bath and Beyond, at least they did yesterday, AND they had them as individual packs! You can’t order it off their website but you can buy it in store. (At least you can here, Exton, Pa).
It’s that time of year again! The tins and individual packets of French Vanilla Swiss Miss are in Rite Aid and Walgreens stores! I picked up all the tins I could find this morning so I can start restocking for the year.
So I feel this exact same way! I have searched and serched. There’s a pin that has a recipe that is similar enough, it gets me through. However, I have just found some from Christmas at the Office Depot. Which got me thinking…it’s on Amazon right now for what is left over from Christmas! 🙂

Hello, all who are looking for french vanilla swiss miss. I live in Philadelphia, its in the shelves here with a Carmel one i picked some up after Christmas (isnt the sales after Christmas the best part lol) for about 29 cents.
OMG! I was beginning to think I was the only one going through this despair! I was actually starting to think it was a figment of my epic imagination and the the deliciousness that changed the hot chocolate game in fact did not exist. You are clearly my soul Sister because I wholeheartedly agree with everything in this post, from the almost obsessive consumption of corn pops to the feverish search for this hot chocolate.
