Michelle Williams Covers an African Gospel Song with “Say Yes” and I’m Jamming!

Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child fame and PoorMichelle.com shade came out with a new song yesterday. It’s featuring Beyonce and Kelly Rowland but I don’t think they’re necessary. She needed their name for the boost, doe.

Michelle Willliams Say Yes

I listened to it and it was familiar as hell. It’s because it’s a cover of a popular African gospel song. I say “African” because I’m not really sure where we kicked it off but South Africans sing it, Nigerians, Ghanaians…

Michelle musta went to an African friend’s church and got inspired to record one of the songs from praise and worship time.

You can even tell from the opening and the beat. That is straight AfroBeat. She did good with this. Although it’s “When Jesus SAYS yes, nobody can say no.” Not “say yes.” Also, she forgot the “Up Jesus Down satan” that’s supposed to be at the end. But it’s cool. She can cook.

I’ve had it on repeat since last night because I’m a sucker for AfroGospel.

Get you MORE LIFE and watch the Soweto Gospel Choir’s rendition that had me having my own little praise and worship session at home. And it was just them at rehearsal! Chile, I LIVE!

Before you press play, please beware of your hips as they start to move on their own.

Update: the video is now available! Check it out.

You can’t outdo Black people.

Did y’all listen to the track and twerk for Jesus? It’s ok.

Such a strong message for women of color. Yes, we can support each other. Way too many shows on tv (which I watch daily) saying otherwise. Good for them! That song is hot! The Soweto Gospel Choir singing it live is HAWTTER!!!
