About LuvvNation, Building an Amazing Audience and Blogging On Your Own Terms

These last 48 hours have had me in stitches! I have laughed myself into hiccups over our BLAXIT shenanigans. Both the post of us Black folks talmbout what we’re taking if we leave and the one with my white readers negotiating terms with us. Read them and get your entire life! In fact, the conversation is still hot on my Facebook page an every time I visit the threads, I see more comments t howl to the blue-corned moon about.

I have said it many times before and I will continue to say it. One of them things I am most proud of is the online community I’ve built over these 13 years of blogging. I have THE BEST eFamily ever and this isn’t up for debate. Most websites on the internet are the den of iniquity and the rule is “NEVER READ THE COMMENTS” but half the fun of my site and my Awesomely Luvvie Facebook page are the comments. Because the folks who read my work are some hilarious, summagoons. They make me laugh til tears stream down my face. They are funnier than me OFTEN and I’m okay with that. And they make me really grateful because they keep hope alive for me, even during dark times.

They call themselves LuvvNation and they are my play cousins. I have hundreds of thousands of play cousins, y’all. They’re Black, white, brown, and all colors. The oldest amongst them is 94 years old (shoutout to Mother Doretha). They identify across all sexual orientations, genders. They are ALL OVER the world, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

REP YOUR SET! T-Shirts might happen.

Yesterday, I was reflecting on this on Twitter, and it led to a rant about how I’ve cultivated this strong audience over the years, and blogging on my own terms. I wanted to share that with y’all here.

I love this, and I love you. I have added many of your Luvvieisms into my current vernacular and only people who speak fluent Luvvie get it. I love that this was on Twitter because literally like 2weeks ago 2 popular accounts had a similar in the opposite kinda way) rant about (all of the stuff they hate about their readers. It was a turnoff. It came off as ungrateful IMO like now that their brands are popping they are all of sudden so annoyed by the folks who kinda helped them get there. Anyway enough about them. Keep doing you boo! Luvv you to the moon and back because, I low key would not be surprised if you were like “Hey y’all I’m going to the Moon tomorrow tomorrow to interview Michelle Obama, Shinda Rhimes and Oprah for their new Intergalactic School for Girls!!! Cause you the shit too!!!!

Indeed you are my good girlfriend and cousin in my head. I hear your voice in every “Luvvie-made-up-word” and I’m here for all of it. Because of you, I’ve changed the tone of my blog so that it is authentic to who I am. I’m a professional woman but when I have something to say, why the hell should I sugarcoat it? Thank you for showing me that MY voice is important. Thank you for showing me that transparency and authenticity trumps a fake persona.

Queer whitewoman here who’s seeing your posts for the first time (Blaxit post made its way to my in box, and the one of W trying to groove with the Queen of our nation at the memorial service. Kinda hard to watch still traumatized by W’s reign but still, so unreal can’t believe she kept her composure), and in desperate need of crazysmartfunny. THANK YOU! I laughed harder than I have in weeks, maybe months.

Already reading back posts, signed up for future ones.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
