#SquadGoals – BONUS Episode 1 of Rants & Randomness

My peoples! This bonus episode of Rants and Randomness is all about #SquadGoals: how to find your tribe and forge friendships that are built to last.

On this episode, I’m diving into one of the most important topics that I’ve covered this year—building meaningful friendships in your 20s and 30s. I have a really interesting group of friends, from the people I’ve known since high school and college to the celebrities that I’ve interviewed on Rants and Randomness. And through it all, we’ve stayed in touch, encouraging each other to pursue our dreams and live according to our purpose.

If you’re looking for those kinds of relationships, this is the perfect episode for you. Download the transcript to get all of my tips, tricks, and strategies for building your squad.

When I think about #SquadGoals, I think about the people who have been there for me since day one. The guys I laughed with in my high school classes. The girls who helped me get through college. The mentors, entrepreneurs, and creative professionals who encouraged me as I built my blog. And the ones who knew me before I knew my calling, who became lifelong friends because they had no other agenda.

Those “Day Ones” are precious. They remind you of who you truly are, and they push you to become a better version of yourself. Hold onto them for as long as you can, because they are the foundation that you need to create a great group of friends.

Here are some of the other topics that I covered in this episode:

Find Likeminded People

When you are ready to build new relationships with people outside of your immediate circle, you need to look for someone who has something in common with you. That may mean that they have the same interests or the same type of personality, but more importantly, those similarities will let you know that you share the same values.

If you want to live authentically, and fulfill your purpose in life, you can’t invite people into your life that are going to try to sabotage your dreams. You need to watch out for the competitors, the adventurers, and the self-absorbed friends who only think about their own lives, because they will hold you back from becoming who you were meant to be. And choosing friends who share the same values as you is a great way to weed out the people who are in it for themselves.

Choose Quality Over Quantity

If you are doing this right, you may not have a huge circle of friends. You may have 2-3 people that you invite into your world, who you share the highs and lows of life with. And that is okay—you don’t need a big squad to be #SquadGoals, you just need a good group of people who have your back.

So choose quality over quantity, and build meaningful relationships with people you can truly rely on. It’s better to have a few ride or die friends than a thousand acquaintances who never call you back.
