Do Good Work (with Tiffany “The Budgetnista” Aliche) – Episode 34 of Rants & Randomness

Yo, my peoples! This week, I’m bringing you another episode of Rants and Randomness.

On this episode, I’m feeling good about the fact that I am on the Fall 2019 cover of Muna Luchi Bride magazine. I’m ranting about people who love to announce that they’re unfollowing you on social media. And I’m shining a spotlight on the Podcasting 101 video series I’m hosting with Sean Rameswaram. Plus, I’m sitting down with Tiffany “The Budgetnista” Aliche to talk about how she’s helping women take charge of their financial health.

This episode of Rants and Randomness is brought to you by Universal Pictures’ Queen and Slim, a film about black love. It was written by the Emmy Award-winning Lena Waithe and directed by Grammy award-winning Melina Matsoukas, with an amazing cast of actors and actresses.

Feel Good

Muna Luchi Bride magazine is the biggest multicultural wedding magazine in the world, so when they asked me to be their Fall 2019 cover girl, I was thrilled. Jackie Nwobu, the magazine’s founder, flew in a team of photographers and stylists from New York City to put together my final look. My Rant

And since I’m in the middle of wedding planning, I really don’t have time to worry about other people’s outrage. I’ve worked hard to create a platform for creatives, women, and people of color, and it’s my responsibility to shine a light on the issues that we all face as thoughtfully as possible. And I will always speak my truth, whether you love it or hate it, because I’m doing a disservice to the listeners in LuvvNation if I don’t keep it 100 on issues of racism, sexism, and overt discrimination.

So I don’t understand why someone would want to announce that they’re unfollowing an influencer on social media. Everyone has the right to choose who they will listen to, and I know that there are a lot of people who disagree with the comments that I have made on this show. I completely understand, and I encourage you to be constructive when you share those feelings online. But if you put me (or anyone) on blast because you’re trying to get attention or promoting your own platform, you’re doing yourself a disservice. This podcast was designed to be a home for honest and intelligent conversations, not a funnel for your rage.

My Randomness

At the same time, I know that there are a lot of talented creatives who are looking for a way to start their own podcasts. I’ve partnered with Google PRX to create a Podcasting 101 video series, hosted by myself and the brilliant Sean Rameswaram from Vox Media’s daily news podcast Today Explained.
